I haven't settled on a start point yet.. I am coming from Cork so similar distances. I am more inclined towards Plymouth..
The beer's better, and there's a fine stopover* halfway - The Turks Head on S Agnes.

* Whichever way you're heading!

Enough talk of 'size/length'; I'm reliably informed that anything over 24' doesn't matter anyway......!
Is anyone else here departing from Pwllheli.
Edited Pwllheli.
Yes hopefully me ,circumstances allowing. Its just a hop from sunny Fleetwood where I'm based. Hopefully I can give myself a little extra days prior to the start to enjoy my first transit of the straits. Beaumaris is the my most southerly sailing destination so far.

Some of us might undertake some training in preparation for the Jester itself.
This is my effort so far:
How to pronounce Pwllheli

  1. Break the word down into the sounds "puu" + "thel" + "ee"
  2. Say the sounds out loud, exaggerating them at first
  3. Practice until you can consistently produce them clearly

No sorry still can't get it, if I put it all together it sounds like puu+thel+ee .. .........

I might, undecided at mo whether I’ll sail to plymouth from essex, or trailer to pwhelli.
I fancy the sail but wales gives me a better chance of doing it The boat is so wee I need to be extra careful about weather/conditions. Leaving from wales and taking a bit longer gives me bail out options all along the coast if seas looked like getting too rough for her. Though the way probate is dragging on it’s getting more likely the realities of house selling in england/ storage or moving/buying in scotland are going to scupper the whole thing :( It needs to happen very soon or really drag out to middle of summer.

Just how 'wee'....?

Peeps have used 22' and 24' boats from Plymouth on that passage. There are reliable weather-haven 'bolt-holes' every few miles from Plymouth to the Isles of Scilly which are attractive areas in their own right, should weather and inclination require.

Beyond 'The Bish', if surprised by wild weather, one can readily turn tail and scoot back to Scilly.

It would be a great achievement if you were to do it in a proper jester boat like you've got, ie 30ft or under I have no idea why bigger boats than this feel compelled to hijack a very well organised event specifically for this type of boat.......

Hi all. Can any one tell me if an entry list has been posted for this years challenge. I have looked on the Jester site but cannot find any information for this years entry's.

OK, big boy stuff now, as I'm heading off for the start line at Pwllheli (Puu-thel-ee) on Thursday morning, via Stromness and Torshavn is the plan, but I've not received any info or update on the event itself. Having never previously done this, and it being an informal/unregulated challenge, which will be why many of us do it, is this normal? At the moment, I'm planning on arriving in 'Wales' on or about the 12-13th of June and just saying "Hi" at the marina, which might should be good enough. Anyone here who can set me right?

See you there. Let Hafan Pwllheli know you're a Jester as they'll put us all together - and let us stay free in the week before. We'll have a get-together on the Saturday evening.
Have a good sail round!
