I am looking to buy my first boat, saw the Balt 750 with a 163 HP deisel engine at last weeks show in Birmingham and was very impressed. There seems to be very little information on this boat on the web other than it is built in Poland, so would be grateful for any comments or advice you can give me as to its quality, reliability, potential performance etc.

I will be using it primarily for day cruising off Swansea but would like the option of overnighting to North Devon/Cornwall and West Wales.

Hmmm you must mean the BALTI 7.50 if it was at the Birmingham show.
I usually only pay a fiver for a chicken Biriyani though...

Seriously..not heard of it before but just checked out the Polish website and it looks nice enough.

Do you already have a boat in Swansea??..in the Marina or Yacht Club?

Didnt go to the Boat Caravan and Leisure show this year after being severely disappointed with the boat turnout last year. Went with 3000 quid burning a hole in my pocket looking for a new radar and various other electronic toys and there was not one marine electronics stand in the whole place that I could see. In fact it seemed that the only sea chandlery representation was Jimmy Green....fine if you're a raggy. Great for caravans and motorhomes but some way to go to attract seagoing motorboaters I fear...and I only live 20 minutes away from the NEC.

Welcome to the forum. Don't be put off by some of the "thoughtful"comments - you'll get used to it! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif The Balt 750 is not a common boat as you'll find out. However, it is a nice little boat. I have a friend who bought one last year and I did some training with him when he got it. I was impressed! For value for money I think it is very hard to beat. Build qualitity is very good, solid and functional. The cockpit is a good size, but the seat coverings had a bit to be desired, but these are cosmetic and can be changed to suit.
My friend had the Yanmar 240 diesel fitted on the Bravo 3 leg. This combination works very well, particularly in close quarters with the Bravo 3 operating on its duo prop. The 240 Yanmar gets the boat on the plane very quickly and 35-40 knots is easily achiveable. The ride again is excellent and tight turns are performed easliy and smoothly. My expereince of helming was in Southapmton Water in a Force 4. OK, its old "Eastern Block" and its not the sleekest boat on the water. But, its strong, functional with pretty good build qualititiy- I've seen much worse on boats costing a lot more! It is -was last year- excellent value for money. My friend paid around £37k with the Yanmar 240 new out the box.
INMHO, its a boat well worth considering. As to how it would perform with the 165 hp ( I'm presuming Volvo here!)? I would think OK. Won't be as quick as the Yanmar option but I would think a speed of 30-32 knots is well within range and cruising at around 26/27 quite comfortably.

PM me and I'll put you in touch with the guy directly and I'm sure he'd be delighted to praise the Bolt. He took it down to Devon and Cornwall in the first year and loved every minute of it and has had no major teething problems.

Good luck.

Thank you all very much for taking the time and trouble to reply - much appreciated. The engine is actually an FNM, which is a new one on me, but a friend who knows engines gives it the thumbs up. I am on the waiting list for Swansea Marina. I only live about 30 minutes away and have a good mate who keeps his yacht there.

Unfortunately, since I posted the query I have been having some problems with the vendor - the site in Sutton Coldfield referred to above - so the purchase is not as definite as it was 24 hours ago.

God - it's a minefield this boat lark.

Hi

I was wondering if you bought a Balt 750 as I am looking to upgrade from my Bayliner Sports Cuddy to somthing with a little more home from home comfort.

The Balt 750 looks like the ideal boat at the ideal price.

The short answer is no - but not for lack of trying. I thought I had done a deal at the Birmingham boat show recently when I shook hands on a price with the dealers - Tameside Marine - but they are effectively refusing to honour it and won't speak to me or return my calls.

I'm no expert but the boat does seem to be the best value new boat on the market at the moment, if you can get one.
