Azimut Magellan 43

Not based in Wellington, just served on ships on the MANZ line (Montreal Australia New Zealand) run so regular visitor.

Very sad when one remembers that so many New Zealand men as a percentage of the population died during World War II in the 60's women outnumbered the men. No wonder we used to claim that we went to sea to be in port.

Windy Wellington, Cook Strait is a wild place in certain conditions, loss of the Wahine a fine well found ferry just two years old.........

In which part of your beautiful land of the long white cloud are you based, if you don't mind me asking?

Btw, I wouldn't call the Magellano line a "love or hate" type of boat.
At least, I've yet to come across any real haters. And (imho, of course) she's not such a love inspiring boat, either.
Extreme boats are more akin to mad love, like Nordhavns and MTI turbine catamarans, just to make two opposite examples.
The Magellano is aimed at matching practicality with style, and in this sense she's a compromise boat.
But if she suits your needs, great! After all, any boat is a compromise anyway...
No first hand experience though, sorry.

Oh, and I'm sure most folks agree that if you will keep us posted, possibly with pics, we would appreciate.
I for one would, anyway! :encouragement:

I would guess somewhere in Liguria, where I might need to go in a couple of weeks.
And if so, I might take some pics for you - though I'm not 100% sure yet...

So she arrived Monday and i got to see her today and first impressions are WOW big bold and beautiful very impressed with the finish and overall design will post pics of sea trial when we do it next week

So all just spent a week in our 43 with 5 people and all in all very impressed had a full mix of weather smooth and rough sea and I can't find much fault with the 43 or the importers Pinnacle marine in Auckland the hand over went as you would expect and besides a couple of really small issues no other problems.Im very happy we installed a water maker as the queues I witnessed in barrier island nobody wants to do that.Worst experience we had was 25knt wind and swell on our beam and I stressed more than the boat did. In following seas she was very easy to handle with no tendency to broach we spent a week between various islands rain and sun and even the beds were pretty comfortable which surprised me as I'm 6.2 and even find some hotel beds uncomfortable, we got a top speed of 22knts with full fuel and water, the hardest part for me was getting in to the marina I thought with all the gadgets (thruster and joystick) it would be pretty easy was I wrong wind and tide wow I felt like a amateur she does have a very high profile which doesn't help and here comes my biggest complaint if you touch a pole thats it instant scratch on very expensive grey paint job there is nothing protecting your sides from damage at all i don't know the correct term for the strip that could of very easily been installed on the leading edge and been between your paint and pole I don't mean to hit the poles all the time but it has happened twice now and although repairable very stressful ..More to come

They are called 'rubbing strakes'. Must say I've never been keen on painted hulls but I do like Magellans.

Good to hear you are loving your new Azi. Rubbing strakes as Pete says, but you might try using a plank strapped to your fenders to reduce the chances of impacting a pole?

Apologise for the long delay and lack of pics life gets on the way sometimes but summer is almost here and getting ready for some boating.... We put 90 hours on the clocks last summer and had a blast no problems at all with her she really handles most weather thrown at her a lot better than I do as I have discovered I am a fair weather man had a few 35 knot days that we had to endure and let's say sweaty palms endured so 20 knots and under for us although this Sunday we had following seas and 35 knots on a rather long stretch of water about 30 nm and we coped

Well, who isn't?
It's not like offshore fishermen like rollercoaster seas - that's just something they are forced to live with, occasionally.
But normally we aren't, thanks God!

Anyway, well done for enjoying your fine vessel, and also for gaining confidence that she can safely bring you back home also in not so pleasant conditions! :encouragement:

Oh, and I'm sure I wouldn't be alone in appreciating a report with pics on your cruising grounds, if you feel like posting it!
It'll be a long winter for us up here, you know...
