Autoterm vs Eberbasto

Well it's ordered.

Now just the fun of working out how to fit it in and (the trickiest bit) run the exhaust out the side.

So you used the cheap, plated mild steel fittings, brackets and hose clips ?

Afraid so. All good 3 years later, but to be fair heater is mounted inside boat and it’s a dry boat. Obviously I’ve got CO detectors a plenty. I’ve just replaced a very smoky Eber D2 in my van with a 2kw. Chinaspacher. The Eber did over ten years with no problems, and in all honesty I doubt the Chinaspacher will match that, but I’ll report back if it dies an early death.

Apart from the lack of stainless jubilees & bolts the rest of the kit looks OK.

Pretty much finished the install. Went down tonight to do the last couple of bits, a can of diesel and to fire it up… controller dead

Apparently there’s a dodgy batch of controllers and I got lucky and got one.

Bit frustrating tbh as they know there’s a bad batch but I’m sure we’ll get there in the end.

if I bought it again I'd just buy the cheapest kit from Autoterm and source all the other stuff separately.

I kind of wish I’d paid more attention to this advice.

I’ve bought all new Webasto outlets, the exhaust was good but unfortunately didn’t work for my install and I’ve replaced all the hardware with stainless.

The skin fitting is good from 2 foot away, if you look too closely you can see what looks like orbital sanding marks and a bit of pitting - I doubt anyone will look that close at it.

The stainless heater bracket is good.

The ducting and lagging is good. The lagging might even be better quality than the Eberspacher equivalent.

The fuel tank is nice and solid. Assuming it doesn’t leak it looks much better than a lot of the ones on the market.
