Good day to all, I have a question which I hope any of you can help me with, I have a automatic change over switch for a small inverter to power my TV and Fish tank in case the main power fail, I have a 3000w inverter but when switched on even without load the fan runs and after a while while leaving it on the fan bearing failed and I had to replace it, the swich turning it on is just a open or close switch, so the question I have is I need a way to create a closed loop when the mains power is off and a open loop when mains power is on so that it can automatically switch on and off the inverter as needed the change over switch has a couple of extra connections wich I have no idea what they are for is there a way i can use that connections or must I buy a Normally close 220v Relay switch?

Thanks in advance

I would guess that the automatic switch is a relay or contactor powered by the mains that will have contacts to power up the inverter and double pole double throw contacts to change the power source to the load. Do you not have any details from the manufacturer of the changeover switch as your description is rather unclear?
I think that a normal computer UPS would do what you want although a 3kW one would be expensive if you really need that much power.
A standard fan from an established company like Papst is rated for 50,000 hours so you were either unlucky or it was a very cheap fan.
Lastly, is this a fish tank on a boat?
