Autohelm ST4000 Mk2 Noisy

The autohelm on my steering wheel has always been noisy but now it seems to be "crunching" more and more as it turns the wheel. Has anyone had similar problems and any solutions please ?

Could be either the gearbox or the bearings that are on their way out. No real solution other than a replacement. I had 3 of them fail but have sold the boat so don't know how long the final one lasted.
