Autohelm 3000

Wanted, an autohelm 3000 compass unit. My existing unit is beyond repair & I would rather not spend £ 450+ on a new one.

Is this the really old Autohelm 3000 with a belt drive and gimballed compass unit with red compass dial on top and "set - 1, 2, 3" on little wheel on the side at the bottom. If so I have an old one - with drive unit which you are welcome to have. I'm not sure it still works but maybe you could use some parts of it.

The compass unit on my old analogue AH3000 started sending me round in circles so I purchased the ST3000 retro fit kit for about £250 re-wired it to the drive unit and all is well. Try Greeham Regis Marine page 144 of June PBO.

I replaced my 3000 head with the 4000 and connected it into my seatalk system it works fine, not sure of the price now as this was some years ago, but I also have the large 3000 detachable head in fact I have two and a spare drive, you can have one of the heads if you have not already got one. Where are you based. I am in the north west, Lancaster area, or this summer in the Clyde.

Mike, thanks for your reply. I would be pleased to try your spare unit. Mine is the type with a red compass knob on top and a dial "off-1-2-3" on the base, it sits on a tapered gimballed bracket. Is this the one ? I am in Suffolk near Ipswich !! The best way I think to collect would be for me to send a stamped addressed box to you to post back if you are willing to. Are you offering if FOC ? or what price did you have in mind ?
