Interesting variation
The answers are interesting in their .... a) frivolity - few, b) strict adherence to the letter of the rules regardless, c) using judgement as to when to stick to rules and when to turn away, d) outright disregard - again few.
Even though the rules are quite explicit and clear, its interesting that there should be a variation - ok - I am guilty of c) so that shows that I do not follow them to the letter.
The problem comes when the variations become wild and uncontrolled so to speak and silly actions occur - the Moody and Container ship is an example - whether it be on part of ship or yacht.
It is also worth remembering that there are NO Court or Accident rulings that declare one vessel 100% to blame in any collision or Close 1/4's situation. Blame is ALWAYS apportioned in varying %ages according to each vessels actions etc. So if you think that sticking to rules will get you through any hearing ..... sorry old bean not true.
The original question I regarded as a trawl for replies etc. - but it has highlighted the variation in thinking ...... Mmmmm gives food for thought doesn't it ...... I wonder what the boat from my Chichester Entrance incident would have to say ..... probably the answer type b) !!!
