The fool that I am, Twas the very first place I sailed thru when I arrived in the area. Did very strange things to my depth sounder. A hasty retreat was had. Great camera work and a really nice video to watch.

It’s an interesting patch of water north of Scarba.
Being slightly indecisive, I came out the Crinan and sailed Thru to Oban to relocate. Wishing id not left the Clyde I then sailed back that same afternoon. Picked up a mooring buoy waiting for the Crinan Canal to open the next morning, change of heart and sailed Back yet again. So in 24 hours I got to know it quite well. I never quite know where I am heading or where ill end up. Just go with the flow, which quite often is not the case!!

This might be of interest:
Very interesting, thanks for posting it. When I had my meander thru last April ‘‘twas in the area of the buttress where my depth went from 100 mtrs to 7 depth very quickly. I hastily did a sharp turn to starboard and sailed with my tail between my legs so to speak. Now I’ve got a much better idea I’ll have another meander thru.

Good post, Angus, and one which shows how to produce a successful video with sensitivity and respect for the area and environment. I note he didn't fly the drone while on the Black Islands because the birds were nesting. Some drone operators think they are entitled to fly wherever they wish, even despite many organisations providing extensive guidance to the rules and best practice.

‘‘Twas like a mill pond, things are a bit weird round that way, quite often I just give up steering. But yes it went from what was on the chart very quickly to arround that. Being completely clueless and it being the very first place we headed after leaving the Crinan, given the wild turbulence I thought a rock was imminent. Think it was just the turbulence affecting the reading. Still good fun. The sound of Jura is creepy on a gloomy misty day.

The tidal steams and wibbly wobbly water are what makes the area west of Kintyre more interesting than the Clyde. I've motored through Corryvreckan once, at slack water in a flat calm and it was pretty boring! It's a great shortcut, though.
