Been haveing a sprayhood made with Jessops. And Clyde marina very kindly said I could come in for fittings as long as I left immediately with no charge. Thursday I left to sail to brodick with the intension of comeing back for the final fitting, but there was no wind so I though I would anchor behind the breakwater as it said in the Pilot book keeping to the south side as its shallow at the north end. The Ferry on the loud hailer and by VHF informed me I was not allowed to anchor, I was not in is way and was out of the channel if I had been in his way he would have taken me and the breakwater. when I entered the Marina the following morning someone from the marina gave me a polite telling off and said I should not anchor there. Can someone please tell me is the Clyde Pilot wrong.

the ccc sd`s do say " temporary " anchoring whatever that means. i would have thought that just about all anchoring is temporary.
is the mariner 3.3hp still for sale ?

I've never seen anyone anchor there and would have thought that it was all under control of the harbour which is Clydeport Authority. Although where you were anchored would not have caused a problem I expect they wouldn't want to see it full of boats.
I suppose if the ferry had a problem and both engines conked out it could drift right over you. I know when the ferry is leaving and arriving the crew always prepare the anchors for release in case of such a problem.
The marina handbook states that the outer basin has to be cleared when the tower is showing 2 red lights. This is the case when the ferry is coming or going. So I would say the Clyde Pilot is wrong.

I think it may be Jessail you are getting your sprayhood from.

I did see a boat anchored behind Horse Island once but I wouldn't.

I have on a few occasions anchored just at the very NE edge of Horse Island, clean sand there but dont go too far round the east side....there is a small drying bay on the NE corner dont go further south than that......also the west side at the very north of the island is OK. I used to anchor the Troon lifeboat at that spot to practice a breeches buoy exercise onto the island.

So if a visiter comes and he dont have the marina hand book and bad weather is comeing from the west ,so the marina has shut the gate. and he has paid £35 for the pilot book that tells him he can anchor there what has he to do.

The CCC have no authority of what goes on in the marina or the harbour. Complain to wherever you bought the book or whoever wrote it. Then you might get your £35 back

If it's bad enough for the marina staff to shut the gate you wouldn't want to be out there behind the Breakwater. You could tie up in the inner basin you would be safe if a bit uncomfortable. Or you could head up and hide behind one of the Cumbraes it would only take an hour or 2 to get there.
