Whilst in the South of France last week we saw many interesting boats but the ones which intrigued us were "Arctic", a huge ship like craft with lots of aeriels and cranes etc and "Jackie O" which I think was Aristotle's old converted destroyer and looked quite imposing too.

Interested in any info on these as they both looked fascinating....

Thanks

Nick

Jackie O

He may be thinking of "Jackie S", of which there were several, all owned by the infamous Dr Emil Savundra of Fire, Auto and Marine Insurance fame. The boats were named after his daughter and at least one of them was powered by 4 (count 'em) Jaguar engines. He took part in several 1960's Cowes-Torquay races but never had much luck, a trait which continued when David Frost subjected him to trial by television, in front of a baying studio audience comprised of people who he had defrauded.

He's often described as a bit of a character but in all honesty, like Cap'n Bob, he was just a crook who stole lots of peole's money.

I saw Virgin Challenger II ashore at Beaulieu sur Mer the other week. What a shed, it looked like I built it. Apparantly its been down there 4 a while doing nothing.
