Re: Nick\'s not so big now

I think he was trying to follow Collregs where power gives way to sail - bit close for my liking

Re: Nick\'s not so big now

That photo was taken with about 22x magnification so they seem a lot closer than they actually were, plus that tanker was bloody huge. We were about a mile away when I took the shot. I watched a couple of VERY obvious course changes to indicate the yacht was 'giving way'.

Re: Nick\'s not so big now

Colin's right, the lack of depth of field is misleading.

We had already given way by sailing east for about half a mile, and had just headed up to sail behind the ship when this picture was taken.

I have got a couple of other pictures but don't have my own website to host them. Would be pleased to learn how to do this on a 'public' site.

How to post piccies

Go to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.boatsontheweb.com/>Boats on the Web</A>, click on "photo Gallery and Boaters' Albums" and then "Boaters' Gallery Aug-Sept 04". Read the "how-to" file, and Robert's your father's brother.

The site is run by Boatone (poster on MoboChat) and most generously provided as a service to others for free. Sail as welcome as power.

Resting in Cherbourg on Saturday afternoon.

Jimi in the front, John M to his left, tome waving, BIGNICK far right, Graham behind the wheel.

Finally managed to post a picture for the first time !

Re: Aaaargh

I thought it was in C block, Dartmoor.

<edit> I just plucked that, if C block is where they keep nonces or other such horrible types it was or has no relevance to what I meant, just thought I should throw that in/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

typical no computery person

huh! B1's photo-twiddling skills are the stuff of legend and far to complicated to just learn in 5 minutes, afaik. I believe that he is expert at maintaining the detail of the photo yet blur/lose detail in the humdrum uniform bits like in the sky - which makes them less complex and smaller as a computer file of data hence faster to load.
