Took a years subscription when i went to the dark side.
Lovely Galeon 460 Fly on the front cover, more of the same inside, Ferretti 920, and bigger still.
I obviously dont mix in the right circles, but spending that kinda money on a ‘hobby’ seems a little perverse.

Just maintaining / cleaning the 460 Fly would take some time. Then i am supposed to find the time to actually use it.
Must be some seriously wealthy folk out there ....

Heaven forbid that they clean it themselves! - they all have boat cleaners so it is in pristine condition when they get on.board.

and just think, the big stuff in MBY are just mere tenders to the Paul Allens of this world!

Is do miss Motor Boats Monthly, MB and Y seems to be aimed at the seriously wealthy apart from a few articles, Nick Burnham is particularly good

Yea,,,, but only as a desperate attempt at Gatwick to stave off the utter boredom of the next 4 hours of economy hell.
Got away lightly this time, merely back with just minor sniffles and a very annoying cough. :)

Yes, it does have a decent mix. There is a feature that has for example; Second hand cruisers for under £40k. Quite different from the custom section that is in every few months, but it is nice to look at those as well. It provides an escape from everday mundane scenarios.

I also get Power Boat & Rib magazine which is closer to MBM. Lots of small boat reviews and a great variety of articles covering all sorts of subjects. Actually prefer it to MBY now.

Yes, I enjoy the reviews.
Interesting to see in the last one that the hybrid boat used more fuel at speed than a fairly equivalent conventional one. It was only ahead at tick-over.

Yes generally the larger boat owners employ cleaners.
I on the other hand just take longer holidays and as I’m retired have the time to do my own cleaning! I have watched cleaners doing their job on large boats and I have to say they don’t exactly put their backs into it!

I do boating on a shoestring but because I do lots of short holidays I get the boat cleaned by a company. Well worth the 48euros a month it costs. Saves wasting half a day cleaning when I get there, plus they do a better job than I can.

I used to get worried about how clean and shiny my boat was/is. Probably because I waste too much time on here.
Now in the winter I let the rain wash it. Boats don't get covered in green gunge in the Med. Plus a goodly layer of red rain dirt, sand etc keeps the UV of the gelcoat :-)
In the spring I give it a good jet wash and scrub with a deck brush and boat detergent to get any ingrained gunge off the decks
In the spring/summer the sea keeps it pretty clean with a quick (30min) hose down when it starts to get sticky with salt
In the autumn it gets a serious jet wash to get the salt out of all those little gaps

When I decide to sell it eventually, I will pay the local yard to make it gleam again and get the teak cleaner out.
However you can do open heart surgery in the engine bay.

PS don't do this if you have a blue hull. I once had a blue hull.
