If you use the Barclays mobile app you can pay cheques in by photographing them. Nationwide don't do it yet.

Ditto HSBC, but ONLY if the cheque conforms to their ideal! Feed-in tariff cheques from British Gas - the only ones I receive on anything like a regular basis - unfortunately don't. I'm told (don't know how reliably!) that it's because British Gas fill in a field - the amount of the cheque - in the magnetic numerals along the base of the cheque. Of course, this is blank on a manually filled cheque.

I wanted to pay a largish amount to a new payee. I asked barclays how I could do it as it was over the set limits.
They told me to ring them via the banking app and they would transfer the amount there and then.
It worked very well.
