Just a quick question, I plan to leave my boat, Bayliner 265, in Fresh water on the River Ouse in Yorkshire for about 2 to 3 months, I can pull it out and clean. Ideally I dont want to Anti Foul it, will it be ok? How long can I leave it in without a problem. Just interest in your views?

But then, knowing your feelings about advice. And you being a bit of an expert, I'll just shut up. and leave it to you. The tow is purely optional. Either way.
[/ QUOTE ] /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Hlb, that is quite unfair and completely unnecessary. You don't know me at all and you have absolutley no idea on my feelings about advice. Your comment is based on nothing more than one forum thread where everyone was answering a question that I hadn't asked. I wanted views on the question I did ask! You seemed to ignore that at the time and again now.
Anyone who knows me will know that I am one of the biggest seekers of help and advice. If you did bother to get to know me (and bear in mind I live near Plymouth) and knew how I do things then you wouldn't be making snidey remarks like that.
But then again... knowing your attitudes towards others as well as I do perhaps you would! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Thanks for your comments (well, most of them were welcome hlb)...
There does seem to be a range of views on this one... I thought there would be hence the question (a bit of evidence that I do seek advice and am not a "bit of an expert" at all I think)...
Firstly, the boat has been antifouled previously. It is about a year old and as I am dry berthing I wasn't going to re-do it this year until the question came up over the Round Britain trip.
I did think about having the antifoul removed and the hull returned back to shiney gelcoat but for now I am not going to have it done. So, the decision I must make is do I just leave the old antifoul on, perhaps with a very light rub down to reactivate it, or do I re-antifoul completely.
Listening to your comments I kind of bend both ways but on balance I tend to agree that as I have already antifouled previously then I should re-antifoul again just to make sure I have no problems half way when a lift and scrub might be difficult. Had I not antifouled at all then I might have considered taking BrendanS view and risked it as then I would have wanted to keep the pristine gelcoat.
So, antifoul it is then.
I did like the idea of half and half... would have been fun and interesting to do.
BTW... a quick plug... I still short of some funds and still need sponsors for many legs. Please, if you or someone you know might be willing to help make this trip happen then please email through the web site. Ta.
Sorry Brendan... yes I did forget to mention that it had been done before but that was a genuine mistake... I should have said. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
None the less, me not mentioning it did cause some interesting comments and views that might not have come out if I had.
Yes... sorry about the drift... I just get so cheesed off when people assume they know me from just one or two forum thread posts when they have absolutely no idea what... gggrrrr... there I go again... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Jim, I can't speak for all rivers, in all circumstances, but I put my boat in the non tidal River Thames for 2 years with no antifoul, and simply wiped off the slime when it came out end of season.
I've been told that if you use one of them non-stick brill balls (the shiny ones) on the AF it "reactivates it" ... obviously only if there is active stuff currently covered by non-active stuff ....
But if you're out the water anyway then it shouldn't take long to wack a load on ...
Yes, I did think about trying to reactivate it like that but by the time I have gone over it to reactivate I could have almost done a proper job and re-antifouled completely... shouldn't take more that a couple of hours I would imagine.
