Antifoul removal from the leg

the antifoul on my volvo leg has built up over a number of years and the screws etc. are almost impossible to get to.

i would like to strip it back but i'm worried about paint stripper on the aluminium.

has anybody any ideas please ?

do you know anyone who is having their nearby hull soda blasted ? Could you have the leg treated at the same time? Otherwise careful use of sandpaper or a flap sander if you are sure of the location of the screw heads.

I think I'd avoid caustic soda based strippers such as "Dilunett" aka "Marine strip".

Check out "Removall" and also International's "Interstrip".

If you damage the original coating with any form of abrasive method you will have to repair that.

without doubt, the best stuff on the planet for this is a starbrite product, cant remember its name but most chandlers have it, spray it on , wait 10mins, hose it off, unbelievable, might need two atemps.

I stripped by first outdrive leg back to bare metal. I can't remember what I used but i suspect it was Dilunette. Once you have bare metal you need to thouroughly clean and degrease the surface and apply an etching primer. You can then paint the leg and then slap some antifoul on. To be honest it was a lot of work for very little benefit. The leg looked top notch once done but a year or two later and you could barely tell I had done it

I would avoid getting it on the leg in the first place by wearing long trousers in future.
