Anti-inversion solutions?

What a timely thread! I have just bought a Wayfarer a dinghy, a model that I have considerable experience with. However my version is the Mark 2 SD which has the raised floor sealed from the hull. This has an effect of increasing the floating height when capsized and making an inversion more likely. In fact I now know that it is advised that mast head floatation is used on this version. I was wondering how to minimise the risk of an inversion as my son is quite light.

The righting lines down the gunwale are a good idea and I never thought about floatation actually sewn into the head of the mainsail. I like the idea of an automatic mast head inflation device.

As kids (13) we used to have to bounce about on the gunnel at the quarter, with a jib sheet to lean out, to roll a Wayfarer back to the horizontal, I don't remember it being hard or tiring as it was all in the technique. We were taught this but my son who completed his RYA Stage 3 said they only did capsize and not inversion.

Here is a selection of mast floatation devices on sale: -
