Another Solar Panel Question

On the jag 24 I bought recently it has a fixed solar panel covering the sliding hatch cover, about 2foot square. It has a controller.

Two questions

-can I take out the leisure battery it is connected to through the boats wiring panel and just leave the solar panel active?

-what wattage do you think this panel is?

Yes, if you don't need a constant supply for any devices - I can't imagine how this could be the case, though.

-what wattage do you think this panel is?
I would guess 20W ±5W

As you have a controller you could probably remove the battery. I'm not sure what you would gain though. In poor conditions (ie. overcast thunder clouds) the output from the panel may not be enough to power your electronic gizmo's.

If you are just wanting to drive a log and depth sounder and your existing battery is shot, then a small sealed battery of just a few AH's may be a useful alternative.

If you have a radio don't forget that on transmit it uses a fair current and a small panel would be unlikely to cope. You want to have enough power available to cover that.

15 to 20 watts.

Keep the battery to power your electrics. The panel will keep the battery charged.
