Just got home after a particularly bloody trying to earn enough to pay Tony and Gordon's their ever increasing share of my income. Waiting on the mat are two identical thick brown envelopes from the DVLA.
'Can't be a Tax reminder as I've just paid for both vehicles,' thinks I. Too bloody right! Instead they contain brand new "Euro" style log books as well as a letter to inform me that as part of the European harmonisation of vehicle registration my old V5 must be destroyed as it is no longer valid.
As a long time Euro sceptic I am bloody fuming. Tony and his bunch of lying toadies are again sneaking another bit of Europe into the U.K through the back door.
Its only a bit of paper I know, but how many millions has this latest bit of Euro arse wipe just cost the British Tax payer?

Thats it. Rant over. I'll now go lie down before I have a stroke. Mike. [&%$£%*] [*^£%$] YBW has no 'smilies' for the way I'm feeling.

Re: shock horror!

Wot, a new registration form for a vehicle? This does indeed mark a major turning point in the power of bruxelles.

Lets not get too excited, it makes sense. I don't think that changing a form for a better one should have you worried about your sovereignty.

'Better'. Sorry I do not see how putting the same info onto 2 sheets instead of 1 makes a form better, unless of course it leaves the front free to carry the words EUROPEAN COMMUNITY beneath the words UK Registration Certificate. Mike

Re: shock horror!

That's what people have said since we had a vote on joining a free trade area, no traffifs at athe boarders, that was it full stop.
Then we had a EU parliament, than a EU court, then EU this and EU that, regulation here, regulation there, quoto this, quoto that, have we had a vote ? are we likley to get a vote ??????
But each time we hear, well it's only a bit of paper, well it not that soft, what harm can it do, or just a funny remark / comment.
Only one day we will add up all the little bits, and guess what, they will equal a whole, and then it's to late.

Re: shock horror!

Thankyou. I was thinking I was the only one that believes that this is exactly what is happening. I just hope that those in favour have put more thought into it than went into the Millenium dome and Iraq. Mike

Re: shock horror!

It struck we after pressing the continue button, how many years ago did Tony say we are getting rid of the Lords and replacing it. But in the mean time we will have a temperary chamber, have I missed something but arn't we still with the temp one ?. Scotland, Wales and NI have there own parliament, but there are all different reasons why the English should not, or they will have something better, one day, possibly, but they will probably forget.
If you go back to what we had when Tony arrived, to what we have now, add what is in the pipeline, or planned, and not a lot left.

Hold on

>I just hope that those in favour have put more thought into it than went into the Millenium dome and Iraq.<

Sorry? The Dome was an entirely British cock-up. Can't blame Europe for that. Still, at least it was Bwitish, old boy.

As for Iraq, if UK had been entirely integrated in Yurp we wouldn't be wiping Bush's backside (polite term, that) in Iraq now, we'd have several squillion more loot in the coffers and fewer crosses in military cemetries.

Me, I'm all for being part of a greater Europe. 'They' have better food than the UK, better healthcare, better pensions, cheaper property, great skiing, cheaper booze and baccy, better education, some manufacturing industry, a distinct shortage of lager louts and football hooligans - well not as many as the Brits anyway, prettier women, very little fox hunting, cheaper interest rates, a boat building industry and many of them speak better English than you hear in UK inner cities. Ok they're crap at Rugby and pop music, but I can't think of many other advantages of being trapped on Mud Island with a bunch of pathetic politicos who you wouldn't even follow in a bus queue.

Vote for it? Of course I'd vote for it. Only the short-sighted wouldn't.

Or would you prefer to put on some Elgar until the electricity runs out?

Re: Hold on

C'mon Ken, it's so good in mainlnd Eu that they're walking through there to get here! OK, we bin a soft touch but I still don't like the idea of melting pot Europe. That's what made France etc so much fun to visit, it being different an all. Now they'll have us all singing the same song. Ask the Dutch or some of the Scandinavians. Ones I have spoken to are not that happy.

Re: Hold on

Ken, I agree, Europe is a better place than the UK. However supporting our further integration is not going to make us more like them in any way shape or form.

All it will do is further increase the difference as we're forced to continually subsidise mainland Europe, as the German empire relentlessly expands by taking in more and more bankrupt, mickey mouse, ex soviet block states.

We have long been the main net contributor to the EU, whilst everyone else has their hand out. We accept everything they throw at us, whilst the French block ports at the drop of a hat.

Europe will bleed this country dry and dump all the roving dross onto this rapidly deteriorating island and the politicians will happily sell us down this shameful river, content with the promise of the riches that will await them in Brussels in return for their treachery.

Agree with you entirely except for your comment on Le Rugby.

I predict even the Welsh will be teaching England how to play for the next few seasons, never mind the French and Irish! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Right

But the way to solve that is to nip in and take a leadership role, not hang about on the whinging fringes. Go back as far as Macmillan and Churchill and you'll find that's what they wanted to do. It's only assorted littlebritainers since who've turned us into a bunch of wallflowers at the dance. And we have one huge advantage - the English language which is now (good pun coming up) the lingua franca of the EU.
