Another Majoni valve question.

Hi all. Welcome to summer.

I have recently got that horrible feeling of being totally inadequate. I’ve got the ability to fix most things, I could rebuild an engine in a heartbeat, but can I inflate a Majoni fender………….

I know there are older threads on this, but it doesn’t help me. I have purchased new Majoni valves and an adapter for my compressor. I have a big garage compressor and have also used a 12 volt cigarette lighter compressor.

With the new valve in hand, as expected you cannot blow through it using your mouth. Screw the adapter into the valve and you can blow through it with your mouth. But, and this is the problem, you can also suck air through it. So it is not a one way valve as I had expected.

Is it supposed to be a one way valve?

I emailed Majoni and they said that if you screw the adapter right into the valve, then the valve is in the deflate position. They can’t tell me how far to screw their adapter into the valve so that it is in the inflate and not deflate position.

So having screwed the adapter into the valve just a few threads at a time, Im blowing through the adapter/Valve and just at the point that you can blow through it, you can also suck through it. So I do t know what Majoni are on about.

Long and short of it, even with compressors, I can’t inflate a Majoni fender.

All I can try now is to remove each valve and blow it up, and quickly replace the valve.

So just what am I doing wrong?

This is what I do. Use the adapter/tool to pull the old valve out, push the new valve in. I then inflate without an adapter using my electric car tyre inflater with a car tyre valve body, without its schrader vlave, in the inflater, and with the rounded rubber end of the valve body, the bit that fits through the hole in the wheel rim, pressed hard over the fender valve hole.

No issue with my adapter (link below). Screw it in, inflate with high pressure pump and remove. Job done. HOWEVER, this only works for new valves. Trying to top up partially deflated fenders that have been used for a while is a PITA as they won't seal, presumably due to the salt buildup. Seamark Nunn seem to be the cheapest supplier (I've found) for the valves at £1.99 a pop but I'm hoping that a bit of hot water will revive some of the old ones.
