I know I know it has been said before but it really is irritating. Hide behind a silly name if you must but why are people so scared of telling us at least what kind of boat they have, where it is etc?

Some of us try occasionally to be helpful and the answer relevant to say a 20ft weekender may be entirely different to the answer for a 40ft racer. Location similarly matters, the crowded big ship infested waters of the English Channel may generate a different reply to one for the open ocean or the Med or even say Scotland.

Maybe we should just simply ignore the anonymous posts?

Victor Meldrew at least has a name!

Jimi please explain

Why the hell were you looking at a site of longmans nubian goats.

And then, for reasons only known to yourself clicked the link called udders, yes I went looking to see what and where your pic had come from.

Please tell us what exactly you were looking for when you stumbled over this site.

I enjoyed the fact that in the gallery, the guys family all came in last after his photo's of goats.

Re: Jimi please explain

I don't see what the problem is. With a bit of imagination you can give details of where you are and even what sort of boat you have/have not without giving away your home address, bank details, mobile and home phone number and days you are away from the home to give open season to criminals. As you might have gathered I can't stand anon posts either...

Good point, profile updated - though as said before, those of us who work in the industry sometimes like to be honest with our customers (potential and existing), hence the anonymity.

Now I'm confused.

"Good point, profile updated - though as said before, those of us who work in the industry sometimes like to be honest with our customers (potential and existing), hence the anonymity."

How does this equate to being honest? Surely being honest is not hiding who you are or am I missing something.

You will have to define what you mean by anonymous.

This site requires registration before you can post, and running multiple identities is frowned upon. So no one is truely anonymous and if you are referring to posting as "Robin" rather than "Bedouin" why do you feel that makes a difference?

Because if I think that certain sailors are whingeing, whining fools it's not always prudent to tell them to their face. Would you buy a sail from me if I did?

Well for example from your profile the only thing known is that you are 'regular'. I WILL resist the temptation..

We had a big discussion once re loose footed mainsails and if the clew could pull out of the boom groove. There is a huge difference here ifyou are talking about a sail for a Leisure 17 or a big raceboat with an ultra powerful laminate main and a load of heavyweights on the rail.

A lot of us (me included) relate things to our own backyard, predominantly the English Channel. Someone sailing away from such a congested expensive area with it's huge numbers of commercial ships must wonder sometimes what we are talking about.

Why is it so hard to fill in the boat details and location, if you want to be anonymous and known as Miss Piggy fine, but at least let us know where you are coming from boatwise?

My name is Kim and I'm a Yottie!

I have a boat, a wife, two daughters, a grand-daughter and with all these shes, a deficit at the bank.

I sail my Westerly 28 out of Walton on the Naze and sometimes make it back.

I missed the whole of last season due to her picking up her mooring and taking herself up Walton channel before finding a kindred spririt to lie against during an Autumn storm (80mph gusts).and beating herself up quite badly. I gave her a bit of a refit last year and to say the least I'm chomping at the bit to get going this year. Hope it warms up a bit though.

Ah - so it is the empty profile that you are commenting about rather than the name :)

Well, as I am sure you realise the profile is a recent innovation - so those of us who were used to the forum without such bells and whistles perhaps never got round to filling it in.
