The boat is up on props at the mo. and I want to a/f it before launch..easy enough.. but what about the bits behind the props/wedges? I don't fancy shifting the props as I go.. recipe for disaster!!? obvious thing would be to do the patches when it is up on slings prior to launch..but how long should it get to dry.. bearing in mind time is money for the yard. Everyone must have this problem,so what's the best way?? Cheers

I know it goes a against the grain when your are already paying for a service, but slipping the price of a pint to the boat hoist driver just might persuade him to do you a lift before lunch and drop you in a little after. It's not really long enough, but it does get round the problem without too much expense.

Apply what you can, let it dry, get an extra prop and set it up alongside one that has to be moved, then use the free prop to replace the next one and so on, when all have been relocated, apply the rest of the antifoul.

If you juggle the props yourself you are in danger of invalidating the yards insurance and running the risk of being liable for any damage caused to your boat, and others around, in the event of a slip. I have heard of a boat falling over through the props being moved to areas of the hull that were not completely dry themselves.

Get the yard's consent before touching the props, a good chunk of what you pay for them to prop it goes on insurance!

I just got SWMBO to stand ready with the A/F when we got lifted in ... the crane driver felt sorry for her and moved the boat up and down to make it easy for her to reach !!

I've never met a yard who won't dab it on if you leave the paint and the brush out for them and make it clear what it's for.

Thanks all for my anitfouling answers.(.Should have been Antifouling ) I will be inclined to use Steve's method..ie bung the driver of the lift to leave it for an hour or two. We will be doing the job in a hot climate so the a/f should dry fairly fast .
