Have you ever tried recovering a MOB? Likelihood is that you wouldnt be able to recover a sopping wet MOB particularly if theyre heavy so a life ring may be the only thing that stops them from drowning whilst you wait for assistance

If the MoB is conscious and in reasonable shape, then the bathing platform ladder comes into play. You are right Mike, the horseshoe is a useful bit of kit, and floating rope when you get near enough, so you can haul the MoB to your boat rather than running over them!

Surely you'd just stand where your swmbo is sitting in the photo above and reach or climb over the cockpit side window to grab the horseshoe? No traipsing involved. That said, if it was me and I was planning for a single-handed mob recovery, yes I'd want the horseshoe, but I'd want it somewhere reachable from the helm ie where I would be. When we've practised this sort of thing, I always want to put the casualty on the stbd (helm) side of the boat so I can see exactly where they are.
 
I think there's a lanyard that attaches the buoy to the frame that might be harder to reach. More investigation required.

Yep, I was taught to broadside the boat with the casualty on the starboard side so that the boat is blown onto them. Worked well when we did the drills, even SWMBO managed it.
 
Glad to see you got out and hopefully the engine problems are behind you now. Your little dog had the same look on its face ours does when she is out on the boat. I hope they get used to it

Sorry - I'm out here at the moment - been here for a couple of weeks but going back next weekend.
Then back again about mid Nov - probably for a couple of weeks.

There will be lots of Brits out here when you get here.
Friday evenings in the club bar - thats when all the Brits meet up for a social.
Last Friday evening was packed - good social event.

Hi Pete,

We had our T34 at the end of 'M' when we first arrived in SCM Sept 2008....! Within 2 days we took her over to Mallorca, which was great fun, and spent a couple of weeks on an inner berth in Pollenca.

Unfortunately, we leave SCM on the 9th October, as Timbad has bought our F43, so will miss you; I hope you have a great time in SCM until you go over to the islands; your first trip once you have done the lagoon should be a blast down to Peniscola (18nm south), you can get close-in to the castle and drop the hook in the bay close to the ports entrance south of the castle. Or perhaps lunch there and run down to Las Fuentes (another 8nm south) and stay there, some good beaches either side of the marina and of course some great local restaurants - Mikes recommendation, which we found to be excellent, is El Pinar a short taxi ride from the marina. Its a brilliant run in a T34.

Anyway, all the very best, I am sure you will love it out here!
 
Well, that's the end of a chapter in our boat's life and another one begins....

The Med really is where sports cruisers like ours belong so I hope she delivers many happy memories in her new home. Can't wait to go out there now!

Btw, for an IT native speaker, seeing a boat with a name like yours loaded on a truck really gives the idea of someone moving towards a new place! :encouragement:
 
Hi Pete - received your PM, Mike has just left and Tim arrives late this evening and has been in touch, there will be a few of us here when it arrives on Tuesday, they have only dropped two out of the slings so far this year, but one was fortunate enough to land on the water....!
