Andiamo - Let's Go!

Pete
While in the UK work out to take down the damaged panel get it recovered and replaced -
While down run necessary services to cockpit waterproof sockets . Possibly run an Ariel pug to the master fwd bedroom .
Then just hold fire make good
In the Med your times spent differently more outdoorsy not much "winter nights" in
Buy a free standing TV / DVD combo
Move it to which ever place you wish
1- cockpit @ pm
2- saloon -on the work top
3- fwd cabin -bracket ? Or free standing ( Ian not familiar with the layout )
Put it or them ? out of the way when cruising size them for storage

Thing is with tech 4-5 G etc marina wifi dongles tablets etc -you may find the TV a white elephant -
So declutter the small saloon both pics look daft imho
If when you have USED the boat in the MED a season want it screwed awkwardly to a wall like now then do it
I think they need to be OEMed fully fitted /intergrated to look good .
Your boats interior is gonna have to be ripped open for Aircon anyhow

220v via I verters are better you will be on shore power most of the time
In an idyllic anchorage do you really want to watch TV?
Anyhow the 12 v stuff I heard has voltage issues - that's why inverters are used

Just my 0.02 p worth

Another thing if marina fees are high in the summer or full you will end up on the hook no power - so don, t rule out a geny so fast
You need the ability to explore like the guy in the mag with the V39 and the artic circle
TV is a low priority right now

Thanks Porto. My biggest issue is finding a matching vinyl. Until I manage that I'm pretty screwed.

+1 on both of those points

I would get a bigger TV, and find somewhere to store it when not in use (most likely I would just chuck it under the covers on the bed :D ) - I'm not a great fan of TVs mounted high up, it just doesn't feel natural to me, and I spend more time looking at the position of the TV than what's actually on the TV itself

Just my two €'s :)

I don't really want something that's freestanding as storage space is limited (as sportboats owners will know, finding somewhere to put lounge and cockpit infills is bad enough, let alone foredeck cushions and a chuffin big liferaft in a holdall.

I agree with TV's mounted high up. My zero option at the moment is to get a smaller TV such as the following...

http://celloelectronics.com/product/16-hd-ready-led-digital-tv-with-built-in-dvd-player/

...and a smaller locking bracket in place of the existing one.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brateck-Anti-Theft-Anti-Shake-Bracket-Motorhome/dp/B00ODW2YPU

At least that wuld cover up the worst of the holes when in the 'locked' position. In additon, I'd use an Amazon Fire Stick plugged into the TV USB port. I'd pull out the old inverter (if I can find it) and flog it on eBay.

Pete, many congratulations on the boat. Looks a good 'un

Ref TV:
I'm with itama-Porto - you don't want a TV really in the Med. You wont even sit in your saloon in the med, let alone watch TV in it. I virtually never watch my TVs nor sit in saloon.

Your problem is those holes in the vinyl wall panel

IF you can match the vinyl, then that curved panel can be removed and re-covered. You need to remove the cherry cupboard unit, and to do that you pull off the two thin cherry facia pieces at the two ends of the cupboard unit - they are located by wood dowels and are glued on with black polyurethane, so can be pulled/prised off. Then you can remove the whole cupboard. The door trim is still tricky, but do-able.

But that is pointless if you can't match the vinyl, so the vinyl is your #1 task. Someone at Fairline or ex-Fairline must know, but I would expect it is no longer made anyway, so perhaps the job is to find a very close match. There are zillions of vinyls available today and surely one must match. I'll try to lake a look at JtB's targa 40 (I presume same) and perhaps then send you some samples of stocks that I have

If the vinyl is unmatchable you could just make a cherry cupboard on that wall. Sort of 125mm deep (ie shallow) but good for holding glasses. This would cover all of the existing horror. You could shorten the aft cupboard door on the existing cupboard unit to create the clearance. Any good woodworker can make this, and Martin Brain at boats.co.uk in Essex can match Fairline cherry. You would make the carcass in black veneered marine ply, with just the two doors and the port facia in cherry

You could also put the TV in the cupboard, or have the TV mounted in a cherry frame (instead of a cupboard) and make the TV swing out for viewing, just like in my master cabin, but personally I'd dump the TV and have a cupboard for glasses.

Finally I would keep or replace the inverter. Those caravanny 12v TVs look a bit manky and if you're gonna have a TV then get a Samsung Smart TV and do it properly. Also I wonder if those 12v TVs can cope with the 13.8v that your 12v system will often run at. Plus, you can use the inverter to power a couple of 230v sockets, for charging mobile phones, drones, toothbrushes, etc

Thanks JFM. What's odd, and my memory is a bit hazy after so many years, is that I think my older T30 (1999) had a nicer headlining which was more like seal skin. Could be down to the T30 being a later model than the T34 I suppose. I'd be interested to know what JtB has on his T40 (model launched 2000'ish), I suspect the posher seal skin.

For the record, I hardly watch TV at home and am unlikely to watch it on the boat. This is for SWMBO really (otherwise we'd have to talk to each other)!

Yep, already in touch with FL, Heather and Ed Engel but will make another post on the ex Fairline employees Facebook page to see if they can identify the supplier.

Another option I have is to replace the panel with some stainless. Oddly, T34's have a stainless wall panel in the opposite corner. Doable but tricky with the curved panel (unless I cover the bottom haf of the pnel with stainless and leave the undamaged top uncovered).

why does the fabric have to match ? I think a complete contrast on that whole side would add some warmth and texture.

It wraps right over to the ceiling, as is. Could cut it of course and make a new horizontal joint just above the screw holes

I could do that and have the bottom section made in brushed stainless which would match the opposite corner. Actually that might be OK because the stainless in the opposite corner stops at the bottom of the side deck mouldings.

I'll drop by an upholstery shop on the way home and see if they have anything that would be an exact match.

P, r u sure that the metal panel in your pic is FL OEM?
Regardless, 'fiuaskme, I would get rid of that too, rather than put a matching one on the other side... :ambivalence:
Imho, the woodwork jfm suggested would be a much more elegant solution, if done properly.
Or possibly, a contrasting fabric as NGM mentioned - light grey springs to mind - and use the same stuff to cover also the questionable stainless on the opposite side, while you are at that. :encouragement:
But each to their own, of course!

If you Google for "fairline targa 34 interior" you will see the SS panel in all T34's. When I first noticed it I also questioned whether it's OEM as it definitel looks ot of place. Note tha the boat also has some cream Alcantara sections, at the sides of the berth for instance. I'm sure I could get matching Alcantara and use that to cover the SS and also the botton half of the ruined panel (with a split as JFM suggested).

Almost all TV's are 12v already especially the smaller ones so no inverter needed. The plug and box you get with them is a transformer that steps down from 240 v to 12v. All you generally need to do is source a cable to cut out the box which are easy to buy. Check first but this is generally the case.

This is just another way the world rips off boaters and caravaners

Dennis

Dennis,

that's what I thought when I went hunting for a TV for MiToS. Turns out that most 24-29inch ones I liked LG, Samsung, Philips had a powerbrick that would drive to 18V 19.5V, 22V, whatever you can imagine! So if someone wants to do that, be careful.

further, if you run the engines or battery charger, current as you know goes up a few volts, you have to be sure that the el. bits within the TV can withstand such fluctuations.
Needless to say, didn't buy a TV yet :D

@pete: I'm also with mr itama (PF, it's very confusing having a massive ITAMA avatar and a mismatching nick, you should sort this out :p ) and JFM on this, a nice cabinet would be helpful.

cheers

V.

Excellent idea! :encouragement:
I'm surrounded by solid wood and cream alcantara as I'm writing, nothing else. And I love it.
The only s/s I can see from the interior are the window frames and the cockpit sliding door, all beautifully done btw, but I would get rid also of them if I could... :ambivalence:

At what point do I get your "Approved" stamp? Is it at design stage or completion of works?

Anyhow, off to an upholstery shop shortly to see if they hve anything suitable in their vinyl sample books.

I have been reading this thread with interest. I just read the last few posts and I am going to have to lay down because I now feel quite ill.

Did I hear someone say go without a TV !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:disgust::ambivalence::disgust:

Well, till not long ago you would have never got it, after buying a 30+ kts sportboat.
But obviously I'm not in a position to disagree with your choice anymore... :encouragement:

And with an IT name, btw!
Apropos, FYI, your translation is absolutely correct, but you might be interested to know that in the original language there's a sort of convivial flavor in the verb, which I'm not sure if it's conveyed by "Let's Go" alone.
I mean, the IT version sounds like an invitation to go somewhere (or possibly also do something) all together, in a group of people/friends/whatever.
A very nice name for a boat - in fact, not unusual at all, down here. Was the previous owner Italian, possibly?

I thought you'd like it. Looking at the MARS DB, I see there are lots of Andiamo's, ours is in fact "Andiamo of Littlehampton". And thereby gives me a dilemma. I could Part 1 Reg the one but then I assume that I'd have to have the "of Littlehampton" on the back. Is that right? Would some Johnny foreigner castigate me for not having the full name?

Of course, with SSR I don't need a unique name.

Don't take my word for this, but I would be VERY surprised to hear that the Guardia Civil in Spain (and the likes in FR, IT, or anywhere else in the Med) cares one bit about that.
Fwiw, I just came back from Croatia, and all they were interested in was to check the boat size on the registration papers in order to calculate the amount of the transit permit that I had to pay...
