Took my mum out for the first time when she was 91, shes 93 now and still going strong.
Sthe goes off on coach holidays on her own and flies to see my brother in Ireland 3 times a year.
Took my mother on the boat when she was about 90. Had to lift her straight from the wheel chair over the guard rails. When she was in her 80's I took her on a racing cat slicing through the waves at 20 knts. She loved it.
I also took her for a ride on the back of my bike in Cornwall about 10 yrs ago. I had to lift her off the pillion much to the amusement of the other bikers. She loved it...!!

I'm taking my wife's grandfather aged 90 sailing. It will be his first time on a boat ... anybody had an older first timer or is this a record?
Excellent .. nice F4, could'nt get him off the helm .. when we got back he said "If I win the lottery I'll get a nice big motor boat to save all that faffing about with the sails!" .
I never took my Mother-in-law sailing, we didn't have a yacht at the time. But I took her for a drive in my car, and tried to elicit a response from her. Got to over 100 mph and she was loving it. Only had to slow down because I was running out of road. Oh, how I long for those days when it wasn't quite so wicked to have a little burn-up on quiet back roads!
They don't make Mums-in-law like they used to. Sadly she has been dead for a few years now. Still miss her. More fun than my own Mum, who died just over a year ago. I think we often underestimate the elderly, especially as I am getting near that age myself. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Heard recently that a former professor of mine was given flying lessons for his eightieth birthday. Thoroughly enjoyed spinning around in a Tiger Moth - but got his family all worried as he insisted on riding his Triumph 50 miles to the airfield instead of driving his car.
Hope I will come near to that standard in a few decades´ time.
Several years ago, whilst in New Zealand North Island, I went on the fly by wire (later made famous on one of Jeremy Clarksons ultimate thrill programmes here in the UK) where you are strapped into a 'plane' (basically an aluminium plank you lie prone and strapped onto, with nose shield and handle bars on front, and engine and aero prop on back. Throttle on handle bars like a motorbike)
Suspended by a wire from a series of wires across a steep valley, you are winched up backwards to the top until you are looking straight down, rev up the engine, pull the release, then proceed to pull wheelies up and down the valley sides a few metres from the ground at 60mph ish
The chap doing all the prep and videoing was proud to announce that a little while before, a very elderly grandmother had been on it and had a hoot!
sadly no longer there, due to landslides in the valley due to torrential rainstorm, though there is still one on south island. I looked into franchising one in UK, but couldn't find a suitable valley location. Though understand they have set up franchises in US but on big pylons rather than valley, which rather takes away much of the excitement of seeing the grass go under your nose as you power up the valley side, drop the throttle, swing the handle bars over, then throttle up again as you head nose down!
Brendon - No sailing in home waters I'm afraid, unless you count gliding over the sastrugi of Vatnajökull for an exhilarating week in July. Otherwise, we enjoyed an excellent week under sail in August in the Hebrides, with plenty of wind and sun. Now its under the baton and nose to the mike for a good few months...........
Keep on posting - as if you needed any encouraging.
