Do any of the Yacht Clubs near Southend or Westcliff offer visitor swing moorings for short period? I am thinking of crossing from Kent side to pick up my son who lives that side. I would take my dinghy to pick him up around HW. I am a bit dubious about anchoring and leaving my boat unattended while going ashore for fear of dragging, I would also be a bit concerned about snagging old discarded or mooring lines or chains which I seem to recall were quite numerous in the area. My boat is 24ft bilge keel sailer.

If you were to ask Essex YC, they are based in an old beached minesweeper between Leigh and Westcliff, which has a pontoon along its east side. I would have thought that you could arrange to go alongside there at HW briefly to pick up your son, and save using the dinghy.
