Who can give us more information about safe anchorages between Pool Harbour and Chichester Bay. Whe are intending to go there from Holland for our holyday and will look around in that area for about 10 days.

HI,

there are many safe places to anchor in the area you want to visit. May I suggest you get one of the South coast pilot books. I've seen these on sale in holand and all are execelent otherwise you could try AMAZON.

Be aware that in many of the popular spots they 'charge' you to anchor. Of course they call it something else but it's still an anchoring charge.

Chichester & Langstone harbours both have a large selection of good anchorages. You can always fing somewhere to anchor in the Solent itself (although most of the anchorages are open to one wind direction ot the other).

Newtown creek is a great place, a nature reserve and National trust heritage site and completely sheltered. It's well worth a visit.

You can anchor outside Yarmouth, Keyhaven and most of the solent hardours.

Christchurch bay has poor holding but if your boat can take the ground christchurch harbour, keyhaven and a whole host opf other places open up to you.

Outside Poole you have studland bay and swanage - the former a very popular anchorage. In the summer there is a guy with a 'motot kiosk' selling bread, milk and newspapers.

Poole is the largest natural harbour in europe with hundreds of good anchorages depending on your draft.

There are lots of places to anchor, visit and enjoy which is why the solent area is so popular with british yachtsmen.

this popularity has a downside in that on a warm summers weekend it can VERY VERY crowed but usually mid week it is relatively empty.

I hope you enjoy the solent and maybe we'll see you there this summer. If you see us around pleas give us a call.

Another really nice anchorage is in the entrance (before Needs Oar Point) of the Beaulieu river. There are also piles and a marina further upriver that can be quite quiet, the high cost of the marina keeps a lot of people away.
