Anchor winch clutches.

Never had a problem before, but anchoring outside Glasson, waiting for the lock, the winch was slipping Like buggery, letting out loads more chain. Stopped it by useing the engines. Tried to tighten the clutch up with the handle, but it still slipped when haulling in. No weight on the chain. Are there new clutch plates, it never slipped like that before, no matter what the current.

Seeing that you've had no replies on this one, I'll share my thoughts. I don't think there are replaceable plates, it's just a metal cone which I think in your case has gone beyond the gripping limit and as you would expect one day it grips perfectly and the next day a few thou of wear will render it useless.
I would be tempted to see if you can take it apart and have a machine shop take, say, a mm off the face to make the cone make contact again.
All this is theorectical, I've never tried it, but at least it will raise your question to the top again.

There seems to be spare parts at great expence, on Simpson Lawrences web site.

Anyway, I put a bit of vasaline on the bolt and got another half turn out of it. Seems a bit better now.

the dam thing seemed to take on a life of its own, raising from the depths, then hlb helpfully suggested I tie the anchor chain on to a cleat !!!!! don't know many women would do this or could do this in the circs.
