Anchor shackle

is it ok to use stainless shackles in my anchor warp, with a galvanised anchor and galvanised chain, to avoid shackles rusting away in my chain locker.

I've never seen issues with stainless and galvanised but don't use stainless shackles on my anchor any more. I use a Crosby shackle with some kind of galvanisation. The Crosby shackles can come in a much stronger equivalent for the size compared to stainless.

Then again some will argue stainless will stretch before it breaks which is a good thing.

A stainless link or shackle will not stop the galv anchor chain from experiencing corrosion., Best to wash the chain down with fresh water to remove the salt. You can only aim to reduce corrosion in a chain locker unless everything is really dry.

I won't ask how you know because I have experienced this myself. I now use a galvanised shackle and seize it with galvanised steel wire.

No problem worth worrying about. I have a galvanised Rocna, Wichard 17/4PH shackle, 3 links of galvanised 10 mm chain, 316 Kong swivel, 8 mm galvanised chain. Reasons for this can be found on my website. After 5 years the galv on the 10 mm chain was stripped , chain replaced. Last three or four links of 8 mm chain going a bit rusty after 6-7 years. No steel corrosion.
