Anchor Ball

That's right. Might be an urban myth but nonetheless, if you're at anchor no ball displayed, and are involved in a coming together with a boat under sail or power, you're already compromised. That boat's skipper and insurers might reasonably claim you bear partial liability.

We often have our anchor light on during the day.
The reason - because we forget to turn it off!!
It is a high visibility LED light but you can't really see it during the day so it is a waste of time showing a light during the day.
In wales it helps with the tan.

It's a pretty pointless affair here in the Welsh Med. For starters the anchorages are well known. There is no passage to be made through them unless you want to beach or go rock climbing in your boat and they are all within 40-50m to shore at max and usually a helluva lot closer. An anchor light is essential though and I get peeved when boats dont show them at night.
