Heartbreaking /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But what a finish tho, couldn't have been more dramatic, both boats changing to upwind mode at the end of the downwing leg!

At one point I thought ETNZ would complete their penalty and just creep over ahead but Alinghi got them by 2 seconds!

If only we hadn't copped that stupid penalty at the top mark...... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Oh well, on the upside I can get back to normal sleep patterns.

Enjoy the celebs at your end (kiwis and swiss alike).

Seriously Al' - you did a great job all Cup. Really sharp quick style with plenty of knowledge and not much fluff. You have a new career doing webcasts; no doubt. The /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif 's are lining up.

It did sound like a finishing race befitting of the final. No Sky so I guess I have to wait for a DVD /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Cynic, decynicised

Well, that's a surprise! I was convinced the game plan was to bring it back to 4-4, to go for a big finish. That way more sponsorship exposure, more airtime, more newspaper coverage. Guess I'm proved wrong. Or someone screwed up and gave Butterworth race nine's script!

Fabulous effort Al......... it seems you have cornered the market in ticker tape telex coverage, just like the old days on Grandstand. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nice one Al, been enjoying your running commentaries. Dis manage to get hold of day 2 highlights on DVD and found it fascinating

Since you've seen them all praps you could answer a question about the wand at the top of the main? I guess it's like a fibreglass fishing rod attached to the headboard, so the halyard must be a bit away from the mast to keep it up. With Alinghi having apparently more mast pre-bend, was this the reason why they couldn't lower the main without sending a man up?

Fascinated to see the furling staysail used off the wind. Any more on this?

Anyway, cheers for your running tally
