Swap the two speed mast/foresail winch if fitted for the cockpit single speed one, perhaps, if they are same sized ?
Shame it is f/rigged or I would suggest, with a four pulley masthead, that you run the main halyard over the spare front pulley, then down externally as a two to one in rope.
had the mast down this winter and really gave the track a doing with a PTFE spray as well as the various pulleys.. Its a 35 ft boat and I'm 67 but I can now hoist my sail by hand ( no winch) to the top.
Sounds like there is a problem with the setup. I would look at the size of the reefing lines first, most modest sized boats 8mm is fine. Make sure the sheaves all turn. Also top up the boom before trying to do anything with the sail makes a world of difference.
Definitely worth a try before shelling out on a gimmick like that.
I have a 24v right angle Milwaukee which I can't do without! I get 3-4 mainsail hoists out of it and it will pull swmbo up to the top of the mast! Only available in the us though. Ifaik sailfree of this parish also has one. Great kit! Winchbits available from the URL with the same name..
