Folks,

I am planning on replacing the raw water inlet hoses on my twin engine installation and was after the collectives recommendations on what hose to use.

The original hoses (nearly 20 years old) are clear 1.25 inch with a ss wire re-enforcing coil and are nearly 3m long from the filter at the back of the engine to the pump at the front.

At some recent point someone has replaced the pipe to from the seacock to the filter with 40mm exhaust hose which is nice and durable but bing larger the installation has to use a liner of 1.2f inch hose inside it at the fittings as a reducer.

I like the idea of the exhaust hose for it's robustness but not the bodge to get it to fit.

Looking around, most places only sell the green re-enforced hose or clear pvc hose.

What is the recommendation to use please?

i used 1.25 rubber hose which i agree is much better with a higher melting point. Mine came from the marine engineering company who replaced my engines rather than the usual chandlers.

It is available so suggest you try the local marine engineers. I dont like any form of bodge in this area!

Vetus have 1.25" cooling water hose, made of EPDM rubber with fabric reinforcement and spiral steel reinforcement. Widely available from chandleries and engine dealers.

I wouldnt use solely braided hose, might be Ok when the filters clear but get a bit of weed etc in the filter and it would probably collapse.
