I have a Bukh DV20 and a Morse control box. After a local mechanic had his evil way with things, it won't stay at idle speed when I put it into gear. I've tried adjusting the cables myself, but with only limited success. Can anybody help?

Without knowing what your mechanic fiddled with and being unfamiliar with the Bukh the following suggestions are educated guesses!

There will be three places to adjust the idle speed.

1. There will be a stop adjuster at the engine end that prevents the throttle closing beyond a fixed point.

2. The cable will be adjustable near this point and it sounds as though you have already tried this.

3. If the mechanic removed the cable from the control, he may have put it back in the wrong location. Some Morse controls are designed to fit a variety of engines and take into account the travel required for each operation - throttle, gear. If the inner cable is fitted to the wrong hole in the plate (you will probably see several options) the cable travel will be wrong for your engine. If this is the case, you may be able to see where the cable was originally fitted. Alternatively, ask Morse for guidance as to the correct set up for your engine. The control may also have other configurations which are achievd by dismantling it and fitting the components back to front etc. This could be another cause of a faulty set up.

I hope this helps.
