I have been told to add the antibiotic tetracycline to antifouling. Has anyone used this - did it improve the antifouling and most important how much do I use.

I guess it must work in the right quantity, so must Paraquat or some other noxious substance but its not very eco friendly, Is it? I have heard that in the middle east a combination of floor tile paint and potassium cyanide has also been used, again the same problem with the enviroment, not to mention any close by swimmers?

Might be another hoax like the chilli powder one. Did this reach you about April 1st. And then again, for all I know, it might work.

I painted one side of my rudder with the tetracycline additive and the other side without....result..no difference. Next season I added warfarin to the paint, as recommended in an American magazine. Again, at the end of the season....no difference. Let's assume that the paint manufacturers know what they are doing.

Well! I never swim near fishing boats as they have often said their AF works well not becouse their always on the move through the water but becouse of the phamacy!
Now ill have to avoid pleasure boats at anchor!Which is impossiable today.

If you really want effective AF just sail a lot useing a good AF,if you spend long periods still the just use the old and far less costly TBT,found everywhere if you want it.You will still have to leave your port from time to time though!

Met a Swedish gynaecologist once who had mixed tetracyclin courtesy of the Swedish NHS into his anitfoul since they wouldnt let him use copper. He reconned that it really worked but since I didnt work for the NHS I couldnt try it.

Another urban legend. Guess it keeps the barnacles from getting the sniffles however.
Who wants to have sick barnacles clinging to the hull coughing
