Access to Marinas during Covid 19 restrictions

That would result in starvation in parts of Cornwall and deaths through inability to reach emergency care in Plymouth hospitals

Has anyone read "Not Forgetting the Whale" by John Ironmonger" Published in 2015 ?
I read it in 2015, not the most wonderful piece of literature, and forgot about the book until a fortnight ago.
In brief: Global pandemic, enforced lockdown and the effects of all this on a small community in Kernow.

Government Bulletins are unequivocal about anyone who has or is living with someone who is showing symptoms: Copy/pasted directly from the Government bulletin. One or two above have already said they are in this position. (My underlining)

"if you live with others and you are the first in the household to have symptoms of coronavirus, then you must stay at home for 7 days, but all other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill."

Staying at home and away from others (social distancing)

Well Im glad I asked! This is obviously a heart felt subject for all of us. Since Christmas We've been dreaming about those sunny days with 15Kn on the beam and and those sails filled and fluttering in the sun!

Since Friday last , we're very restriced over here in the Emerald Isle with just 2 Km from house allowed for exercise. Only essential -listed as such work. We can drive for shopping ok. Its dissapointing , but as my old Granny used to say -" Dissapointments are good for young people" (And Older i suppose) She was a tough old bird!

I discussed exercise with my better half for the coming week. I was thinking along the lines that there would be no difference is a 2K cycle to a 20k cycle from the point of view of contamination. She told me that I was bending the rules to suit myself and that the example i'd be setting to others is the main point. We all operate on the basis that " if he can do it ,then so can I" Very soon you get to the situation where we're all back partying in Temple Bar at the week end(We had a bit of that!)

So I've decided , "Stick rigidly to the rules." for boating and for exercise , work and all social interaction (Or lack of!) , hopefully we will be back in action in June or maybe July! Looking at some of the reports from Italy and Spain over the week end has reinforced the thoughts that this is the only sensible decision

Stay safe

If you are going to post such things, post the text that you are quoting in it's entirety, without snipping bits out, or adding your own views. It would also be appropriate to link to the document you claim the post comes from.

What you have posted above is wrong. Even those who are self isolating are allowed to go out and exercise.

Chatted with a police officer today as he was cycling by ( yes we kept our 2m) .. Asked him how crime is currently playing out.. home burglarys , very much down, domestic violence, very much up. Commercial not so bad (at the moment)
All public car parks in this town closed to reinforce non essential travel and questioning people as to why they are out..
Biggest problem they appear to have is unruly groups of teens and when apprehended telling police they have virus and spitting everywhere... they have meetings everyday discussing "the rules" as circumstances arise.
We will be challenged more and more when out and about and restrictions are likely to increase.

Doesnt sound good?

Unruly teens - surely they must be able to deal with that?

This is the same group of teens that made it to the national news a few times last summer for attacking people, vandalism, underage drinking, jumping over police cars (a councilor foolishly stated to the media that this was not a criminal offence??) , attacking council vehicles etc...
They have court imposed curfews (apparently) yet still go out and do what they like... The police may keep detaining them but the system keeps letting them go ?
Im sure there are thousands all over the country that are just a liabilty ..

Well that's a blow against those of us calling for the guidelines to be exercised with pragmatism and common sense.

If you are or were symptomatic, never mind the rules or how you read them. Stay in. Exercise in your garden and keep your distance from the postman, Ocado, and your neighbours dog.

Nothing to do with "how you read them", they are pretty clear.

If you are self-isolating, you must:
  • not leave your home for any reason, other than to exercise once a day – but stay at least 2 metres (3 steps) away from other people

Self-isolation advice - Coronavirus (COVID-19)

So, post #83 is wrong. One would still hope that "the guidelines to be exercised with pragmatism and common sense. "

I have two son's who live and work abroad. If either of them return to the UK the most sensible thing for them to do is to self isolate on my boat for two weeks before re-joining the household, this is quarantine. I doubt that the authorities would understand but they would not be breaking any rules as they do not have a home here. As it happens neither has any desire to return to the UK and lose their jobs. If they lose their jobs then returning to the UK might be their only option.

Anyone here have a problem with this strategy?

From the document you linked to ;

Stay at home

You and all household members should remain at home. Do not go to work, school, or public areas, and do not use public transport or taxis.

If possible, you should not go out even to buy food or other essentials, other than exercise, and in that case at a safe distance from others. The 14-day period starts from the day the first person in your house became ill.

Can you not read ?
