I don't know why but whenever I have had a boat in transit by road, I've always worried myself sick about damage, what will happen if a strap breaks on the crane (i've seen the U tube vid's!) and so on..

So very happy to say that my new boat arrived safely in Lossiemouth today and I really should not have worried.

Arriving at Lossie ... never had a "wide load" before

Lossie has a "Sublift" hoist and there were potential issues about using it to unload the boat. However I had explained the problems to the haulier, who had had previous experience of these types of hoists, and so he had instructed the driver to load the boat well to the rear of the trailer.... and we had no problems

Once she was lifted off the trailer, the boat was put on the ground while the hoist turned around to lift Alucia again and put her in the shed.

Now i can work on her for a week, out of the rain and snow (yes we woke up to a white covering on Monday and it's still 'uking cold!) before the coding survey.

If anyone is looking to transport a boat I can totally recommend John Shepherd Boat Transport. Good communications, friendly and very, very professional.

She'll move up to her new home (or hame) port of Banff in a couple of weeks... hopefully just in time for summer!

It's a Mitchell MKII

Correct!

1995, launched '98, new nanni 320T engine 07 with 120 hrs, bow thruster, new electrics with an immaculate wood interior finish. Oddly it does have an anchor winch... at the rear of the cockpit .. apparently the original owner had an aversion to going round to the bow and wanted all working to be done from the cockpit.

my only gripe is that the helm seat is fixed too close to the wheel making it impossible to stand up at the helm.. but that can be sorted

Nice. I've often admired Mitchells although for me I'd like the wheelhouse expanded to make a bigger saloon. I guess that huge cockpit really comes into its own when you've got the fishing or diving gear to think of though, and means you can keep the catch or the recovered divers off your soft furnishings.

That blue hull's going to be a booger to polish but will (does) look gorgeous when you do.

Enjoy!

Nice Boat. May I ask what it weighs. The reason is that I want a larger boat than I have now. My present boat is a 21.5 ft Guy Couach (Merry Fisher predecessor) which I tow and it weighs 1.9 ton + trailer 600kilo = 2.5ton and I can legally tow 3.5 ton so I have 1 ton to spare for a bigger boat.

No chance of towing one of those Jim, at 31 feet it weighs around 5 tons.

Rule of thumb here, not a techy post about max trailable boats etc
In my experience.
Anything over 24 ft ish is a Pain!

Towing is ok with the right piece of kit.
Towed 4 ton with a Jeep Grand Cherokee
OK, not legal but it had to be done
It's launching and recovering that becomes a pain above 25 ft
Specially Solo!

Yes Enjoy robmuchugh.

An extended wheelhouse can be had I believe.
Current builders/ moulders (there have been at least 3 before I think) actually offer same.
I spied one recently.
Still enough room for the casual angler
Plus 4 comfy berths etc.
Nice boats.

Your's is a belter too !

As yer say
'Twitchey' innit, when they shunt em about on dry land!

Good luck with the new boat Rob, looks very tidy. Has the Hardy sold yet?

Must admit I was impressed by the photos and presentation of the Hardy when she was on the market, so much gear and it looked perfect. No doubt the Mitchell will be similar.

All the best with the charters for the upcoming season.

PS Don't forget an entertaining story from one of the trips either, :-)

The extended wheel house is nice but does cut into the cockpit space - also access to the engine is a bit of bu@@er in an extended version. This one has been cleverly designed inside as it has a dinette seating for 4 in the wheel house, which can convert to a berth and then forward you have the galley, heads, V berth with heaps of storage.

On the slings it was a shade over 5t - Paul is quite correct you'd not tow this - My Hardy was towed away on a trailer by a Range Rover - it did not struggle but I'd bet if he had been pulled, he'd have been well over weight. Probably the biggest fishing type boat you'd tow would be some thing like an Orkney 24 - but even then you'd have to empty all the weight to be legal

The Hardy sold in March and went down to Essex. I found this one by placing several "wanted" ads on the 'net. The ads worked well and I had at least 12 possible boats , that were not on the market, offered to me. Certainly worth bearing in mind if you're looking for a specific type of boat.

I'm sure there will be some stories to come.... mind you the first thing I have to do is go figure how to manoeuvre a shaft drive... never had one before... that is sure to give some amusement to spectators!!

Just thought I would post these photos for you, I took it on the 16th December 2009, just before it started to snow!!! I was just leaving and we have not been back since as every time we make some plans to do the work, more snow!
And for those that do not know, they were taken at Banff and the last one is looking across the river mouth to McDuff
