That's really great J,
Corsica reminds me of a 50,s film set "land that time forgot" instead of a T Rex you got a whale
Here,s a pic of Calvi port for those that have not yet been

Is there a size limit on the buoys in Girolata Jimmy? We didn't go there on our trip round, and I can't think why.

Nick, I've seen 60footers on the Girolata buoys plenty of time so you will be ok, though on the limit. There is plenty of space to anchor, anyhow

As everyone is posting Corsica pics I'll take the liberty to add a few:

Girolata, in quiet April (2011). This is basically 1/3rd the way down the W coast of the island

Leaving Calvi, late afternoon and heading for a trip down to Bonifacio

Bonifacio, right at the bottom of the W coast of Corsica (google image it for some stunning photos)

And finally, right at the bottom of Corsica you have the Lavezzi archipelago which is stunningly beautiful (and beautifully photographed by H, known as Viewfinder on here)

Hi Nick

Max size for the buoys at Girolata is 24m; and they will take up to 26m on the pontoons for overnights only (ie when the trip boats aren't running). I imagine that availability falls off as you go up the size range - but there's also an anchorage just outside the buoyed area.

Cheers

James, thank you for sharing, to say I'm a little envious would be a lifetime understatement, I would love to have seen those fin whales close up, possibly a once in a life time event for most people, second largest animal on the planet, up to 85' long 40-80 tons, I can only guess how fantastic you must have felt seeing those great creatures close up.

thank you for the boaty bit as well;)

Excellent trip report and lovely pics, by H I presume.

Wish I'd seen those whales, always keep an eye out for dolphins etc. but don't even see those much less such magnificent animals.

Your post gave me a kick to do a report too!

I think you've posted that photo on here before. Not complaining, a gorgeous photo. The perfect screen saver for when you're a long way from the shorts and the flip flops :)

For me it's the sense that Match is safely anchored in sheltered lagoon. The tender implies freedom to explore, the colour of the rocks indicates warm sunshine and the gently sloping beach means ease of getting in and out of the tender and only adds to the sense of calm. Even with such a shallow beach there is hardly a ripple.

Self sufficient luxury awaits your return to the mother ship and a gorgeous meal to accompany the setting sun.

All it needs for perfection is the fabled topless ice cream vendor making her way into shot :)

Great to see a few cruising reports coming along.

This is what a boating forum is all about.

Virtually all the pics on my threads are taken by my swmbo, but unusually that particular one was all my own work...
