Quite the opposite. It actually needs to be bendable to feed though the route to the filter. It still is.The OP does not elucidate but I will be surprised if the broken hose isn't rock hard and well past due replacement; inspection of hoses for condition & retention of flexibility is routine maintenance.
I am going to use reinforced hose and make sure it copes with the suction. Unless the hull inlet becomes blocked (in which case it becomes irrelevant anyway) the suction should be minimal.
If I haven't ditched it, I will take a photo and post here.
Fortunately, I have spare hose on the boat. But, what emergency spares should you carry? A few days out of sight of land and something fails……………………
