A long cruise - Spain - France - Corsica - loads of photos

Wow - you're good! My fave is the one with the underwater lighting ;)

From my view, I've seen most of the photos that have been taken and I would like to add that Warlock's SWMBO also has a really good eye for a shot.

Both her and Viewfinder add that little extra artistic bit to their photos which, otherwise, would be "just photographs of boats".

There are also loads of equally interesting photos showing people enjoying themselves but would be inappropriate to post on the open forum.

Also I particularly like clever shots like this one - taken by my daughter using our little pocket camera.

Med boating

Well done, this epitomizes what life on a boat is like in the med
We keep our little portofino35 in the SoF.Spending around 8weeks during the season on her,
It,s nice to recognise all the locations in the SoF,and last year we even after 5years braved a trip to Corsica, returning via Elba and the the Italian riviera, stopping at Portofino,Sanremo etc.
In the summer you need A/c to sleep,it's so hot and the sea is warm.
We watched the Royal wedding anchored between the Lerins islands surrounded by turquoise water.

Yes, Mike - I (sort of) scanned my latest BA charts and then georeferenced them but my main set of charts that I use in Memory Map comes from a package that I bought from Memory Map about 3 years ago. The funny brown Cosrica ones come from that package. I think I paid £100 for the whole of the Med - including Croatia. But I've been waiting for an upgrade that they have been promising for early this year. I've phoned/emailed them several times and they have promised that they will be out soon. I've just checked the website and it seems that they have let us down and are not going to do them. The Memory Map UK site implies that I should go to the Maptech US site and they, indeed, have the charts but it isnt clear if they are any more up to date than the ones I have. I might giv then a call - if only to have a moan (Victor Meldrew style) - I Cant Bieleeeeve it!!!

So, its back to my dubious (kind of) scanning - I've done all I need for our end of the Med anyway.

Mike is this the chart you purchased? What's the difference between the 2 types (apart from price) ?

Clever shot that sort of life on board study rather than a posed shot.

Mike

You post raises a missconception that people fall into.
Maptech have software called Chart Navigator and Lite version used to be supplied with the charts for free. I think the more expensive one includes a full version of Chart Navigator.
IMO, Chart Navigator is OKish but I prefer actually Memory Map software which isnt specifically designed as a marine navigator.
Both Chart Navigator and Memory May will read BSB Version 4 format charts - which these in your link are.
I would ask how current these charts are before purchasing.
I wasn't very happy with the age of the data when I bought mine 3 of 4 years ago.
However there are loads of charts in this portfolio and could be value even if they are a little out of date.
I might be doing them an injustice though.

As I said before, the current version of Memory Map has a huge reliance on internet registration (including charts that you've bought elsewhere or even scanned yourself) so I use old copies and won't upgrade.
For this reason Chart Navigator might be better.

Another point - this really irks me.
BSB charts only allow registration three times – so you can only use BSB charts on a max of 3 computers.
Memory Map reads BSB formats into its own native QCT format and the charts can then be copied as many times as you like with no registration issues. I’ve also written a PC utility that outputs QCT files into other formats (PNG for example).

Absolute Awe, a beautiful insight and some incredible photos

Dear Hurricane,

Your adventures here are to die for, wow Bonifacio looks drop dead gorgeous. Jfm certainly knows some fantastic places, thank you all so much for sharing these Gems with the rest of us. Some of the photo's or your Boats, especially Match and JennyWren cruising together look wonderful.

A dream of mine is to see the French Riviera, St Tropez and Corsica, some of the spots highlighted here are going in the Note book :). The video of the Dolphins brought out the Child in me, the drive that sent me on my University quest to study the Flora and Fauna of the Oceans and Water ways of our beautiful Planet.

To be able to be as privileged as you guys, to see and experience the beautiful view stage you have shown us. Seeing true Natural Beauty from Sea to shore a Dream to realise.

Thank you so much :)

Tara

P.S. I am sure questions will come nearer the time we get to the point of setting Sail. Thank you.

What an truely fantastic thread. Not enough superlatives. I know this was posted last may, but I must have missed it then and only found it tonight. Superb selection of photos and text

Well done Captain Dan for bringing this back to life in the middle of winter! A breath of fresh air. Also really interesting to see the difference M2 has with the new hull windows compared with M1. For me these make the hull look far more modern.

Yes that post was well worth bringing up to the top again. I really enjoyed re-reading it. Hurricane is the grand master of illustrated trip reports on this forum and at 1000nm++ per trip he has lots of material. Hope to see you over in French waters again Hurricane in 2013; maybe move in for august then FDC in September?

Wow!
have just spent the last hour being entertained and learning and viewing the awesome pics thanks to all of you
look forward to putting some pics of my own up when my dear daughter comes round and shows me how to do it but in the meantime thanks again keep it coming!!

It's a princess.

When I bought steel away it was launched at swanwick marina, Jenny wren was brand new then, moored opposite me, what a magnificent site she was too.

Shawn, have a look at a thread earlier this year by Hurricane, when he visited the Eu Grand prix at Valencia (I think it was). He was moored alongside the GP circuit.
