Hi,

I'm planning to be in Lymington on Friday night and need a nice pub to have a meal in. Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

David

There's a good one by the station called the Bosun's Chair or something.
Nice decor, comfy armchairs, laid-back atmosphere, good menu and well-kept real ale. 'nuff said?
Cheers!

Flat Ale

Do you lot still persist with that quaint habit of pouring beer so that it looks like piss on a plate instead of creamy and foaming?

Try The Kings Head on the corner at the top of the cobbled pedestrians only bit up from the quay. Good food and beer. It gets busy so I would book ahead.

Re: Flat Ale - A taste of your own medicine!

To get 'techie' about this, I suspect it's going to depend on what has been drunk previously, the distance of said plate at the point of contact, the ambient temperature at the moment of truth(decorum!) and other sailient(boaty) points too numerious to mention! <G>

Serious (?) recommendations

Not the King's Head unless you like local lads, standing, smoke and over crowding. Try the following Fisherman's; you can book table in bar cum dining area. Or try Yacht Haven Bistro under new management and with bar and full dinner menu.
No commercial connection of any sort........

The new Bistro at Lymington Yacht Haven is very good. Staff very freindly, food good, atmosphere good. Wish it was on one of my marinas!

at all costs avoid the pub that is next to the Town Quay. Grotty "chain" food, and no decent ales. only advantage is you can keep an eye on your tender!

You're right - maybe there should be a competition for the most dreadful quayside pubs. That one would certainly be a contender.

Yes it is the Bosun's Chair. 5 minutes walk from Town Quay. Choice of eating in the bar or in a seperate dining area and a varied menu. Tables can be booked (01590 675140). Yachtie friendly and just slightly of the beaten track, enough to avoid the worst of the tourists.
I've no connection with the place but have used it over several years, being a regular visitor to Lymington.

Thanks all for the suggestions. A pub was what I was looking for so I think I will give the Bosun's Chair a try. The reason for the post was to avoid going to the pub right next to the town quay as the food in there has never looked particularly appetising. I look forward to a good meal tomorrow night. I hope you all enjoy your bank holiday as much as I intend to.
