A challenge to you all

I have a good idea for answering one of the oldest questions around.

Who is better..yotties or power boaters.

kim...why not get a random group of both and pick say two yachts and two power boats. Then lets see who can do what.....i think it would be good for at least a couple of issues and mags.

At least we can all have a laugh about it after..

What do you all think..??

I'd be up for the experience. However as a newbie boater in a small "stinkpot" not sure I could offer much. Chance to convert me before SWMBO decides that we need to buy a bigger boat...

Re: aw mike !...

well surely it depends which powerboat and which sailboat you use. And then the conditions and so on and so on so let's not do this.

Once out of the marina, bet I cd sail yr boat, but not as quick as you can. Once out of marina in a powerboat, I *may* be able to beat you at scalextic which is set up downstairs in aft cabin, the 6x 3 foot set, quite good and the cars don't go all over when they fly off....

Re: aw mike !...

I would suggest that it's not all about performance but seamanship...stuff like that.

Who is safest at sea..who handles a crew better...morring a boat in different conditions..and a little test...MOB things...

Lots to look at and i actually think it would be a good article as it would help us all understnad where each other is coming from...i mean how many powerboaters know what it's like to be fighting for speed in a dying wind when a power boat comes roaring past with all the wake. And how many yotties know just how hard it is to handle a outdrive at slow speed in a marina.

Re: hope not .

nah, this silly scoast saily manners gone mad. Sail racing is fine, "it's a knockout" is just silly... Oooh look that bloke must have fallen off in the mast-climbing event , perhaps he must have hurt himself.? Yes- he must've hurt himself very badly indeed : Stuart Hall is laughing his head off.

Here is a suggested format.

1 x 28ft long keel yacht.
1 x 40ft fin keel yacht.
1 x 24ft outdrive PB
1 x 40ft Shatfdrive PB

Tests on prepairing for sea.
Crew hadnling.
Mooring..leaving and arriving...wind on..wind off.
Emergency procedures.
MOB.
Seamanship.
Awaresness of actions upon other water users.

What do you all think and add any if you want to.

Re: aw mike !...

OK i get your point..but do you not think that it would be avery useful exercise to show and experience what it is like for both sides.

I know what it is like to moor an small outdrive boat..and i know what it is like on a long keel yacht.

But to actually take a group of each and show them and let them try it would be very useful indeed.

I have yet to see any article in the mags that tell yotties how hard it is to do power boat stuff and vice versa...sure you can take a boat and an instructer and demonstrate but you need to take a group and see what happens. i for onw would like to see it.

Re: Surely....

You have missed out some boating essentials.

What about Farting, Belching, Drinking, Eating vast amounts of curry, Falling off pontoons, Falling off boat whilst weeing off the side(drunk of course), Singing loudly until people complain then ssshhhhing even louder when told to shut up ?

All of the aforementioned would be required areas of comparison. I for one, would vow that no Yottie could ever out drink that Colin Maslen.

Sadly, none of us could beat the French for pissing in public.

And what about knackering gearboxes? Haydn must be well ahead there.

Thats enough shite from me.
