A basic question

I was running over some formulas to calculate stability, confort, etc, and I am confronted with a basic doubt; when talking about displacement, do you have to add also the ballast?
In other words, is the ballast of a boat included in the displacement, or when looking at the specs, you need to add displacement+ballast to have the total weight?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help in clarifying the matter,

Miquel.

Displacement = the amount of water "displaced2 when the hull is lowered into the water.

Now since Archimedes Principle states that the "Upthrust equals the weight of fluid displaced" and since once afloat and the waterline is static the vessel is in equlibrium then the upthrust equals the weight, so YES, displacement equals weight (of everything).
