2 HP Honda won\'t go

Started ok and went up and down the creek after the winter.

Then it stopped. No spark. Cleaned the two magnets ? ( were very rusty) that mate with the rotor and then got a good spark. Cleaned carb which looks ok. But still totally dead. Could the timing have slipped ?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

Re: 2 HP Honda won\'t go

I dont know this outboard specifically or even if it is a two stroke or four. One possibility is that you may have a blocked exhaust or old fuel that has not been changed. I have tested engines that show a spark but dont go by tipping a little fuel down the sparkplug hole; turn over slowly to distribute fuel and then give a strong pull. If the spark is sound and it fires you know the carb is the problem. Check that the needle valve isnt stuck--you can give the floatbowl a sharp tap with a plastic screwdriver handle as this sometimes releases it. If there is a drain plug at the bottom of the floatbowl you can loosen this and fuel will continue to run out if the needle valve is open.(Be careful of checking for spark with any overflow around.) A new sparkplug for the beginning of the season is a good idea. I think it unlikely that the timing has slipped unless it has had a strong knock. There is probably a key to keep it in place,-- worth checking though.
I'm afraid that's about all I can think of without the motor in front of me.
Good luck.
