I am interested in fitting a 12v power anchor winch, to date I only have a manual one.
Boat is birchwood 37

Anyone bought one recently? for a vessel this size and what do you think of it?
Cost is always a thought but I want it to last so not necessarily thinking of the cheapest!

I have the 1000w Lofrans Airon. They have a good rep. Dont forget that the cost of the windlass is not the only expense. You will need to have calibrated chain - and make sure that the chain and windlass are compatible - 3/8" and 10mm are looked at as being the same by some people, but the 3/8" chain on a 10mm gypsy will cause problems.

If you are really planning to go to the med, you will benefit from one that has a capstan for rope as well as a chain gypsy, and a declutching feature. reason is, when you moor in the med, it is helpful to be able to use electric capstan (gypsy declutched) to tension the bow mooring line, so frexample in bad weather you can tension the lines and make sure the stern of the boat doesn't bash the jetty.

You'll also need pretty heavy guage (100 Amp ish) wiring to run it on a 12v system, so you need to be able to hide this behind trim panels etc
