I've just received an invoice from the new owner of my moorings and from this week he has increased the charges by 10%!!! This represents an increase of 90 pence per week for my 25 footer. That's the price of 2 Mars bars! (not including the batter)

Surely we are protected against such above-inflation increases? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

...just kidding, Alan. Honest!!

Lucky you, our marina has just done away with there loyalty scheme which accrued you a percentage discount of up to I think 10%. over 5 years or so. Big increase in effect for those berth holders who have got the years in.

Sorry, but you are paying toooooo much for your mars bars!

Even so it is very unwelcome but there was a time a few years back when a certain marina consortium put its' fees up by 4500 mars bars a year for a 40 footer!

Which Mars Bars are you talking about, there is the new mars bar! Or Mars stick, maybe just Mars Rod, well it is a new Mars bar which is crunchy, now if it is equal to two of the new Mars Bars per week, I am disgusted, if it is the original (non king size) Mars bar, then hey. Live with it! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

A battered new Mars thingy is regarded as Neuvelle Cuisine in certain pats of The North. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Why are we not mentioning marina names here? – our offices are in Hythe Marina and we have been told that our rent is going up by 300% - now that’s one huge Mars Bar. :(

Re:Time to vote with your mooring lines ?

Another case of supply and demand mebbe.Round here we have definately noticed a marked increase in the number of new or fairly new shiney white stuff including 40ft plus azimuts sunseekers and phantoms to mention but a few.
This either means that the locals are getting better at social security fiddles and or credit card fraud or people are being driven out of more popular( ie fashionable) marinas further west round coast.

300% is NOT funny for any business. It makes you feel you are not wanted. Depending on the type of business you have got, a business going well in one location it may be very hard to relocate, without losing out on customers. Maybe they realise it in your case, and think they have you by the soft bits.

Maybe they have somebody waiting in the wings to take your premises over at a vastly increased rent? Not very pleasant but it happens.

Makes for sobering thought, far from our Mars bar calculations. Good luck.
