Hmmm, well my 49er crew moans that whilst I do nothing (wiggle the stick thing, and hold the mainsheet going downwind) he has the main upwind, the jib for most of the time unless it's windy, the kicker, the cunno the kite halyard, downhaul and sheet...I can imagine my popularity if I said "here, hold this, and brace yourself mate"...

Personally, I think that technique is *******s. Why ban weight jackets if you're going to allow that? ISAF...rule change please!

probably because practically and competitively it probably takes far too much time and effort to set up to be of any advantage, plus it must be hell on the helmsmans shoulders. So no rule change needed because no one is likely to start doing it in races.

Anyway, this is nothing new, it was in a Peyton cartoon years and years ago.

Edit: I see it has been done in racing. Well fair play to them, using what they've got to the greatest advantage.

See the toe loops on the back of the wings? I might see if I can stitch a pair on the shoulders of my crew's trapeze harness and see if he notices...:D

So which 18 team is going to try the triple then...??

They're all a bunch of nutters could be anyone, but I reckon everyone racing 3 up, that'll make 18s exciting

Just trying to imagine how the bear away would work? I think my crew might be up to trying it in the 14, she's not too heavy so it will give us a bit more power? Practically could end up with some nice bruises if you loose your footing.

These guys tried trapezing off arms (maybe legs are heavier than arms so get them out further) didn't last long though. If I tried it on helms shoulders in the cat I'd need straps I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpy5N0rlueE&feature=player_detailpage
Great sailors these two, they make it look easy, even when they buried the nose.

I helm a new rules 14 and crew on an F18 (the costarmoricaine had some upwind legs that lasted a few hours so it might have helped)
