Thanks, but I have advice from Ocean Chandlery, who sell the balls, that they are indeed to be installed alternating delrin/ss. And my assumption re tension is incorrect - the tension force is taken by the drum bolts, not the bearings.
Anyone au fait with the gizzards of these furlers?
I managed to undo the wrong bolts on the drum, and a bunch of ball bearings jumped ship. They are a mixture of delrin and stainless steel, and I don't know if they should be fitted alternately in each race, or if all the delrins go in one race...
SImple: the TP32 has far greater thrust than the TP10, enough to pop the ram off. Simple fix is a few turns of shock cord to hold it down.

These pumps are very simple devices and easy to recondition yourself cheaply using generic seals and bearings. Mine has done over 5 years since and remains drip-free.
There other threads here and on other forums that go into the detail.
You could try coated strings (Elixir etc). I have no maritime experience with them, but they lasted really well for me on my electric and accoustic guitars when I was gigging regularly. They are a bit dearer, but it might be worth trying one set just to see.

Google Yakbitz. Steve makes an excellent and economical range of wifi adaptors. I've had one for about 5 years and highly recommend both it and his support. No he's not my mate or brother-in-law, cousin etc.

So what if you shorten the 18-inch dimension? Force will not be an issue for most boats. I've seen installations as short as 13 inches, but their reason was geometry (small boat). You can always adjust the gain and damping defaults.

Perhaps the OP could detail the type of sailing he expects these things to assist him with? Years of live-aboard cruising? Trans Atlantic? Coastal cruise? Day trips? Solo or crewed? Makes a difference as to what to decide on.
The boat size rating for these things is a bit useless. A balanced...
Download the ST40 service manual and do the self-tests described therein. That might get you coser to a diagnosis of whether it's the sensor or the display head.
Pretty easy to find it on-line if you do some searching.

Looks very nice, and I'm sure it works a treat in chilly old Blighty, but that colour would deliver you a fried ST2000 very quickly in the Oz sun. Or for that matter, even in Blighty given some of your recent heat waves.
Tell them to make a light-coloured one, and for the time being I'll stick...
Over ten years I have rebedded every deck fitting with butyl and had one leak only - which was due to my lousy workmanship. They have successfully endured hundreds of "green-water-over-the-deck" events.
The trick is that less is more - making a great big gasket means it can be hard to compress...
