    batteries

Agreed- stay at home is best! I can’t get to my boat anyway, the Marina is closed. My leisure battery should be in tip top condition, as it’s charged from solar panels. The starter battery is not charged and I hate to think what state that’s in. But better to have to replace a battery than...

    Red boards still?

Thanks, that’s worth knowing! I’ve found it’s not just the flow, but also the debris that it brings too-the odd tree/log and prop-fouling material too, that needs to be taken into account!

    Red boards still?

Thanks! Signs of progress then. I see the site is now updated. Hopefully we can venture out for some cruising soon!

    Red boards still?

Looked on the EA website and it’s not been updated recently. Assume red boards everywhere still? Is this a record period for not being able to navigate on the Thames? Seem to recall reds back from November. I’m ready to go out but can’t!

    Help me out please

Hi Wavy, how about a Viking 22? That should do coastal and the river. Though you will need to lower the canopy for Osney bridge. I know it’s much smaller, but for handling on your own it should be a doddle. Sadly I’m in the same situation as you, losing my wife in 2017. I find I can handle my...

    Bit quiet Innit ?

Went down to check boat was still afloat after long period out of the country. Solar panels working well-batteries fully charged. Looking at the Thames current I reckon it would be a case of going astern downstream to keep within EA speed limits (!). I would guess there’s a lot of debris going...

    License

A bit bad that we can’t renew online. Especially if people are away. I guess most people will have little change to their details - so not rocket science to do. Bizarre that you have to phone up to give info. And you can’t do in advance either. Rant over!

    Mobicool FR40 fridge problems

Decided to upgrade my cool box last year and go for a compressor fridge. Bought the Mobicool FR40 which has had good reviews. Worked fine initially, it had only a little use, then brought it home for winter. In June my home fridge broke so I used the mobicool again. It lasted a week then packed...

    Thames Britain’s Great River

Hmm - Marlow- Shelley, Suspension bridge, fine church, posh hotel (Compleat Angler), Bourne End - sailing, Cookham - Stanley Spencer gallery, Clivedon, Maidenhead - Boulter’s lock, Brunel’s bridge, Windsor (stuck on that one!!!) Runnymede - Magna Carta. IMHO they missed out the finest part of...

    Thames Britain’s Great River

Watched both episodes yesterday on catch-up. Good programme, but a shame they missed out Marlow, Bourne End, Cookham, Maidenhead and Windsor! Even Runnymede!

MTYC YouTube video from the 60's

Very nostalgic, love the rather amateur cine filming. I think in those days people seemed to have a lot of fun- I liked the water skiing and speed trials! And the home-built looking cruiser yet to have windows fitted!

    Heckling

Didn’t know that! But I like the “Technik” of either Glen Morangie or Bow Thrusters! ?

    Heckling

I was moored just above Eynsham lock a few years ago and a NB decided to moor in a very tight space behind me. Waited for the bang but nothing happened- the guy had bow thrusters and neatly squeezed in, going astern. Probably 1-2 ft at most from my stern; perfect job.
