Mount Liferaft on pushpit - starlight 35 trim???

I have a 6 man life raft mounted on the starboard side of the pulpit on Lyra Vega. It is a bit of a pain sometimes when mooring alongside other boats but other than that I think it is ideal. In terms of trim It goes a little way to counteract the slight list to port S35s tend to adopt.

    Lofrans Royal manual windlass

You certainly have the right idea! All I need is to find a buyer for my current conversation piece to ease the £ pain of trading up. Factoring-in the cost of new calibrated chain is a hidden cost of course. Are there any strong views in the forum on good buys/reliability etc? I read somewhere...

    Lofrans Royal manual windlass

Hi Blueboatman - sounds like it will be more than 5 bob despite the generous 40% discount. A Cayman won't fit unfortunately as current location is on a shelf in anchor locker (Starlight 35). Dreaming of the push button luxury though....

    Lofrans Royal manual windlass

Thanks catalac08, 12" per stroke is quite an improvement on what I am getting. Most of us would lose patience even with that I guess. So in reality the manual windlass it is only suitable for difficult lifts...

    Lofrans Royal manual windlass

Ours came with the boat. At the start of each season I try it once or twice but always give up as it is useslessly slow - approx 1" chain recovered per stroke. Are they really like this or is there a problem?

    Dan buoy lamp upgrade.

Pogoda that is a fantastic mod! Now your genius is revealed do you maybe have any ideas how to improve the reed switch arrangement? The magnet + modified plastic clip combination is the remaining weak link (ie what to tie the clip to? and will the stiff clip pull the lamp off in an...

Chandlers latest update - bit sad

Yes and in WW2 as well - my father was on a converted fishing boat in Northern Norway looking for German subs in the fjords. Very successful when the subs surfaced...

Chandlers latest update - bit sad

Use subs. Use Marines on converted yachts armed to the teeth. Use spy satellites. Use local intel. Use extreme force and blow them all out of the water when they approach vessels on passage. Nanny wouldn't like it but the pirates would sure as hell would stop.

HOw to dissolve oily carbon goo in exhaust elbow

Agree about the Volvo part being cheaper but when I used the 2030 part on a Perama M30 3 years ago the inlet diameter was smaller (no prob, ground that out just like in car tuning days) but more of an issue was the smaller ex hose dia required - bit of a b*gger that - new hose + fitting on the...

    Perkins Perama M30 - caution

Off to Brittany next week so decided to change my oil and filter and get rid of that nasty semi-synthetic oil I mistakenly put in at the start of the season. When I dismantled the engine cover I was pretty shocked to find that I had a load of oil under the engine and in the bilge. I do a...

    Yeoman and Raymarine GPS

Does anyone have any experience of interfacing a Yeoman plotter with a Raymarine 300 GPS? I have got the GPS talking to the plotter (bloody fantastic to behold) but cannot get the GPS to upload from the Yeoman. FAQ's on both Raymarine and Yeoman web sites do not seem to acknowledge each others...

    Suicide Knobs

Hi Jonas, Not sure about the marine application but I believe the device was widely used in the USA in the early '60's where people fitted them to cars so they could drive with one hand free. Almost universally known as a "Neckers Knob" it would certainly allow you to steer with one hand and...

    T-terminal alignment

'Re-cranking' is just what the riggers are doing now. I thought this was seriously dodgy but I see it was mentioned in the supplement with the latest PBO. Very reassuring to see you mention it as well!

    T-terminal alignment

Thanks for the advice. At the moment I have no intention of paying either sooner or later! Not sure if I trust them to put it right properly though - if the T-terminals are "persuaded" to take up a new angle it rather defeats the idea of buying new.
